Pat was roaring and shouting at the display in the stand today anyway. He wasnât a happy camper.
It wasnât exactly a ringing endorsement to give him only a one year contract after promotion. In fact he (Russell) was very close to leaving in the off season.
I predict Russell will be gone by the end of the season, if not well before it.
I donât know how much involvement Russell had in the transfers tbh, I would say minimal enough. There was talk that he would be let go during the off season. I think that would have been harsh to be fair.
And the opening result was very good obviously, and Dundalk away was expected to be a loss and had a decent performance. But only 1 point from two home games against Bohs & Harps is bad. Neither of those sides are good teams and with the players they brought in, we should be winning. Still very early in the season obviously.
But more worryingly than the actual results was the performances, and being way too slow to change things/making the wrong changes. Russell has a reputation for naively playing nice football, but the Harps game was bad, and the second half of the Bohs game was too.
I think it would be very harsh to sack him, but itâs a cutthroat league this year and we need to start picking up points. Pat has very high expectations, perhaps unrealistic, but just surviving wonât be enough for Russell.
And Limerick have a former Rangers coach aswell who could now be the next manager? Sounds like we are the newest addition to the blues brothers! Chelsea,Rangers,Linfield and Limerick.
