He is has been signed up for the training camp. There is expected to be a good bit of depth at RB in this years draft. Riddock will more than likely be bumped up to the number 2 RB spot. He is a decent pass receiver and had enough year and is worth a chance to play more snaps

That’s some gamble from Chip Kelly. Alonso was outstanding in his rookie year and it’s a shame he lost all of last season to torn ACL. But it’s a huge roll of the dice swapping Shady for him even though he had a down season last year. The upcoming draft is loaded at RB, maybe that was a factor in the decision, or maybe they are targeting a free agent.
The Eagles also cut Trent Cole today.
Chip seems to be a huge fan of Moneyball.

Passing league. The RB position has become greatly devalued of late, and Kelly could be dead right to cash in on Shady now. He trusts Alonso per their Oregon connections but to keep going after Oregon products only is a fools errand. He’s not building for a tilt but he’s building for prolonged playoff contention.
