Super Bowl LV - The triumphant trail to Tampa (Part 2)

Could somebody (anybody) explain in 2 sentences why itā€™s referred to as American football?
I watched 5 minutes of this media phenomenon and their wasnā€™t a ball kicked. Hapes of charging and mullocking and tea-breaks and selectors meetings.

One ape was number 87 - they seemed to have rakes of subs. Strange sport.

youā€™re a year early with your question Boxty. Come back at about 11pm next February 6th and youā€™ll get your answers on the biggest night of the year.

What was this?

A few of the Buccs lads were emotional after winning the conferenceā€¦ Brady set them straight.

Going for home runs from the off was a huge mistake amplified as the game went on, eventually it was clear they were going to try a big pass almost every second play, later probably more. Buccs ball movement and clock movement won it as the ticking clock got into the chiefs heads and they panicked really. Fournette was a massive addition. Reid canā€™t have been right after what happened his son, kinda tarnishes Bienemy too in a way. Mahomes just tried to do too much.

He needs to learn how to check down more often, incorporate that into his game, CEH open in the flat all season ling and heā€™s not getting a look, and heā€™s a real shifty back, heā€™s a great QB, heā€™ll be in the conversation for GOAT someday but heā€™s not perfect, they need to keep a defence honest by running the ball more often

Does he run many audibles? Heā€™s still very young experience wise despite the ring. The falcons threw it too much and stopped the clock for the pats, the buccs were never going to make that mistake and could let the clock roll in the second half especially.

Mahomes has every skill, the ultimate five tooler which Iā€™m sure you know the meaning of. But he doesnā€™t have belichick so heā€™ll never get near 6 wins I think. He still might be the goat. Rodgers only has one thanks to years of McCarthy mismanagement and is as good a GB as anyone who has ever played.

As much as I despise Brady for his ball tampering etc, I liked this one

Fournette busting runs and then Jones coming in and finishing them off was a lovely 1-2 punch they had in their armour. Like I said earlier, they just played smarter on both sides of the ball.

Hard to know how much of an effect Reids sons crash had. I doubt it affected things too much, there was nothing they were going to be planning 2 days before the game that would have made any difference. It may have cast a bit of a downbeat mood over them but in terms of football, it would have had little or no impact.

Bienemy was being talked up for head coaching spots, but that definitely took a hit last night. Some really bad play calling and as @johnnysachs and other prominent commentators pointed out, leaving their two inexperienced tackles with no edge protection from TE or RB/FB, was just foolish at best, or arrogant at worst.

Bienemy doesnā€™t call plays

Andy Reid teams have always had discipline issues. The refs came into the dressing room pre game and said they would be clamping down on holdingā€¦ They still went out and held repeatedly. Thatā€™s nothing to do with Reidā€™s son, just poor coaching and discipline. I think the call on Honey Badger / Evans was poor tho.

You also have to give Todd Bowels some props here. It was an outstanding game planā€¦ I posted elsewhere that Mahomes was made scramble all over the field for nearly 500 yardsā€¦No QB survives that. A big learning curve for him and heā€™s still a pupā€¦ but I thought the limp got a little bit more pronounced as the game was slipping away. Paddy letting the world know he was hurtā€¦ His ego was hurt I think. But he will have a lot more big nights where heā€™s gonna have to carry the load as the cap space catches up with the team. He has freakish talent, some of his passes are insane how he throws itā€¦ Itā€™s upstairs he has to master now. He seemed rattled from the off for whatever reason.

You canā€™t fault mahomes, he ran some crazy concentric circles the second the ball was snapped near the end but he had to he had rushers untouched coming straight for him. And these are athletes who canā€™t be easy sidestepped, he took massive punishment.

I just think the mood etc is massive before a SB. Buccs defenders were flying around, wasnā€™t that energy in KC maybe the crash etc affected that maybe not

is he not the OC who helps the game plan for the game? Having their front lined up is not something that is just on a whim. He also clearly does some of the play calling too, but Reid handles the majority of them.

He got creamed a few times, I donā€™t think he was faking it

Never once blamed Mahomes. I dont think he played well regardless, but he was under pressure all night and the Chiefs did absolutely nothing to try stop it. They had enough issues everywhere other than him. Bucs just played really well on defence.

Yeah hard to know on the crash and what role it played. It certainly didnt help anyway.

Reid is the play caller and the offensive schemer there. Iā€™m sure EB has an input but it is Reidā€™s offence

so last night doesnt tarnish Bienemy?

There was talk after the AFC divisional game that Bienemy was calling some plays but he wouldnā€™t admit that he did. Or fully deny it.
