Some shit part qualified Sindo journalist will be on the phone to Richie Sadlier now. The poor cunt has probably already filed his article for Sunday but now he’ll have to ghost write an alternative one.
Robbie Keane was immense tonight.
No vindication at all for Trap, the man of the match wasn’t even in his original line up. A few months ago you were calling for his head and now you are rounding on journalists for doing the same thing. Stop flip-flopping and people might take you seriously.

Must be loud in the 51 tonight;)
He sent the Swedes a curveball with the “team selection” last night, you naive retard. Christ, did you miss the management for beginners course in your office?
Your an aggressive cunt with a few jars in you. I’ll reason with you tomorrow when you sober up. But you’ve made a show of yourself again tonight over Trap.

I’d still like to see Hoolahan start ahead of Robbie, though Robbie did put in a good shift tonight. I think he could have more impact coming off the bench at this stage, though with so many of the senior players now gone his experience would be missed in the starting XI.
Perhaps Trap’s detractors might reflect on his record in away qualifiers considering the players he has available to him.
I’d pick Robbie every game at the moment. He’s still a class goalscorer and while he may not be hugely effective around the pitch, it’s his experience, as you suggest, that makes him indispensable. We’ve had lots of player turnover in recent months and can’t afford to select against Keane, particularly when he’s still a live threat.
That’s an excellent point tonight. Sweden still favourites to come second but a draw in Sweden would always be a good result and especially so with the respective talent available in these two teams.

Mate, you were at Villagers in Olympia tonight and you didn’t even see the game. Please don’t comment.

If Kilbane’s comments about Keane being the only leader in the side at the moment are true then he’s indispensable for that alone. I’d have taken off Long or Keane at half-time and put on Hoolahan, though. I have no doubt in my mind that we’d have won the game. Long did little except fluff a good chance and have Olsson give him a back massage for the whole game. Some games the ref gives a free for every one of those and we benefit from a set-piece. Other nights, like tonight, we get fuck all.
On a slightly related note. Long spent the entire game whinging to the ref and wasn’t particularly good. If it’d been Keane doing the same he’d have been pilloried. Just sayin’, though I know we’re all appreciative of Ireland’s greatest goalscorer here.

We have a plethora of decent enough strikers who look excellent when they’re in form but none can hold a candle to Robbie Keane. Long is obviously the media darling at the moment but he’s nowhere near as consistent or effective as Keane. Still as you say it’s the latter who attracts the criticism.

He’s been ok but hardly stellar for his club and concerns about his defensive discipline and awareness remain. Green is better at that role and the universal hatred for him is odd and a bit shameful.
Developing players is difficult at international level because there simply aren’t that many games and there are short windows to look at players. You could opt for a longer term view and appoint a coach to look after that side of things and filter it all the way down to youth levels. Or you can have the youth levels operating as one and then have a results-oriented manager for the senior team which is the model Ireland (and nearly every other country) have gone for. Trap is not interested in whether McCarthy will be a better option in 5 years or not. That’s not his role.
Fair enough point. But you are admitting, almost, what I am really saying. Trap should not ne in this position, it’s Irelamd (FAI) who is at fault. Trap should have walked but who would blame him for not. It’s the power’s that be should have something like you suggest in place.
I still believe McCarthy is a good enough player to be coached and Trap should be a better manager to have a better team put together by now. I din’t buy thT un this day and age with communication so easy that you can’t be building relations ( firstly), ideas and players even when they are not on International duty. It beggars belief really. I just think he has not done his job to the best of his ability.
