In fairness, that’s Wexford’s level, hopefully we win a few matches.
Great for the weaker counties to get some matches against teams of their own standard.
Let the big boys fire away in the Sam Maguire.
Should be a good tournament if it’s handled rightly. Even the Tommy Murphy had its moments
You’ve a few recent provincial champions in there. Will be a cracking competition
St. Birgitta’s GAA Club in Reykjavik looks the obvious neutral venue for the first round tie between London and New York.
A stepping stone for a senior/intermediate/junior grades for football.
What’s the format of it this year? Do all those counties compete in it regardless even if they reach a provincial final say?
Pretty sure if county gets to final in provience they get to play in Sam Maguire
I googled it there I can’t find the format
That’s correct
Won’t be an issue for all but 2 of those sides at the very most optimistic
With grounds firming up (Going - firm) @BruidheanChaorthainn we’ll be unstoppable in this.
“Lookit” we’re at our own level more or less, if we can’t aspire to giving it a rattle you may shake your cap at it.
I was talking to a serious former IC stalwart yesterday. He wouldn’t give the time/effort it takes today.
Is it possible that, if 8 Tailteann Cup teams all reached their respective provincial finals, that there would then be 24 teams in the Sam Maguire Cup?
Are they just making up the numbers in each as they go along then? If 4 of those teams reach the provincial finals then there’s 20 teams in the Sam Maguire rather than 16?
I’m fairly sure if any of them make a provincial final then Cork drop into the Tailteann as the 3rd from bottom in Div 2. If Tipp beat Waterford and the winners of Clare/Limerick then Tipp, Limerick, Clare and Kerry would be the 4 Munster teams in Sam, with Waterford and Cork in Tailteann.
Oliver?
The previous incarnation of this competition was slain by naysayers from the off. If you’re a county likely mired in this event my advice is to embrace it - you won’t be troubling the heavy hitters yet.
It gives entrants a shot at a knockout at your own level (more or less) and a chance at another one.
It’s not a big deal in the overall scheme, think a championship playoff final here.
Lads are mad for the field at this time of year, let me tell you a Tailteann Cup would be welcomed in Ballinamore with the same enthusiasm as Sam would encounter in Killarney.
There are flaws in the system (In all systems) let’s get on with it.
