Some of the most brilliant music ever made has/have* been television themes.
*I’ve wandered into a grammatical blind spot there, I’m not sure which is the correct one to use.

Grandstand.
The snooker one. I think that actually was a song from the charts?
I don’t know, but it was made by the Doug Wood Band who also made the BBC darts theme.
I’m listening to theme tune of Hill Street Blues right now.
I’m a big fan of 1970s BBC stuff with the Hammond organ, I think it was.
Dave Allen etc.
Actually - do you recall a darts theme from the BBC around 2000 direction?
It was a loud, rocky number. Heavy drums and cymbals.
Doctor Who?
A synthesised electronic whirl before anyone was doing electronic music.
BBC Philomonic Orchestra.
The Brits are deadly!
Yes. 1997 was the last year of the Doug Wood one. The one you’re talking about came in for 1998. Lasted for about five or six years I’d say. I sort of lost track after that.
That Dave Allen tune I was talking about was composed by Alan Hawkshaw, father of Kirsty Hawkshaw of Opus III “It’s A Fine Day”/Orbital Halcyon fame.
I’m sure I’ve posted that here in the past actually.
Maybe if brexit had a theme tune it would help
I believe the BBC sport golf theme was written by one of The Shadows. Bruce Welch possibly.
I’d add that film scores have been some of the best music made too
The Church has all the best music sown up
Recently they played Swedish House Mafia between matches on the BDO.
Jesus wept.
I recall them playing Rocking All Over the World upon the crowning of a new champion before. The Working Man Clubs in the ‘grim up North’ lapped that shit up.
It’s a terrible song but one I always associate with being blasted out around Lakeside before BDO finals, so I sort of like it for that reason.
Best Christmas song probably in Oh Holy Night.
It’s honest. Working class. Just like darts. BDO not PDC.
Like the Miami Vice theme tune.
Baywatch was a cracker too.
We have a designated thread for this.
The BBC Sport ones were all tremendous, as was Arthur from the elections which they sadly changed in 2010
Channel 4 ones all have/had quite a distinctive style too, the news;
Grand Designs perfect as well
An absolute disgrace that it wasn’t used properly in the Colin Farrell/Jaime Fox film.
It’s actually “FREE NOW” rather than “free now”. That marketing genius must be @anthonybrosnan.
I flew into Dublin Airport earlier and they have half the place plastered in mytaxi advertising, placing particular emphasis on the actual phrase “mytaxi”. Over and over again. I feel strangely cheated now.
I’m fairly sure Hailo was bought by mytaxi
