The firms with the contracts for these are making savage money.
The local principal said to a few of us in the pub it could be worth a few hundred grand a year per school for them.
He said when firms were advertising they’d roll out the best of the best as samples. Then once pen was put to paper, the quality went down the drain. My little nephew came home to our place one Friday afternoon and he had a dingy chicken wrap in it. One small goujon that looked like the lining of an old couch and a splatter of kethcup that resembled a blood clot. Now he’s never in need of it and my sister says 4 out of 5 days the lunch is never eaten. But the quality appears to be shocking.
There’s loads of different firms doing it so I’m sure there’s good and bad. And hopefully the bad will lose the contracts next year. But tis some ball of money alright.
A principal in a small rural school told me they’d get an extra teacher and an extra S&A for the money and the students would be far better off with that instead.
Now I’m sure in the same school there’s a handful of kids well glad of their hot lunch. But the majority have no need. It’s a tough one.
It’s a good idea. But the execution is off. TBF they are only starting
Our lad gets the plain pasta and brings in his own sauce. The roast chicken dinner isn’t bad. The rest of it is pure bland and is barely touched if ordered.
She was ordering the plain pasta for a few weeks but my compost bin was full of fucking uneaten pasta for a finish so we called a halt. We’ve it turned off now she gets no lunch. Twas an awful waste. I assume the company are still getting the money for her though
Do schools have boards of governors, down there in the free state? A posse comprising of two overly ambitious teachers gearing for promotion, one bored parish priest, a principal desperately clinging to power, and a smattering of citizens…respectable, mercenary, notionable, innocent bystander etc?
A local community group does our school. Food is fine. My kids would eat it 9 days out of 10. We discussed it before. They get 3.20 per child per day. I’d say they make decent wedge out of it but that’s not an excessive amount to cover food labour packaging delivery etc
Anecdotally a lot of the newer schools coming on board are not using the big companies based on the experience of other principal…instead working with local cafes, shops etc who have the facility to do it locally with a bit more flexibility
There is no requirement to take the food if you don’t want it. Anything that isn’t eaten comes home with out kids in their lunchbox so parents can see what they have eaten. So many have just stopped ordering…or order the same one or two items every day that will be eaten. There is about 5 choices per day …imo you’d want to be v fussy not to eat one of them
Pizza and such should never be on a kids regular menu in any school
I see the shite one of mine gives to my grandkids and it’s awful
I’m just hoping that it’s not as regular as I fear
Yes they are called Boards of Management. A Parents Council then as well to represent the views of the Mums and Dads. The politics of local school administration is something I’d be keen to avoid going forward
He’s not really he’s just absolutely typical of an older generation in this country who hears soundbites like this and they make sense to them.
Explain to him in clear terms why he’s wrong rather than insulting him
