Useful 45 run (and counting) 7th wicket stand from Bairstow and Woakes moves England to 184/6 after they looked in real trouble. Pakistan still strong favourites from here but the target is no down to 99.
Two wickets in three balls. England 196/8, 87 runs shy. Make that three wickets in four balls. 196/9. Finn reviewing and survives.
Woakes gone 204/9. Pakistan one wicket away.
Pakistan won by 75 runs.
And Amir gets the last wicket. Lovely
Was actually the worst of their four bowlers but cleaned up the tail well. Wahab bowled a great spell at Bairstow and Woakes without reward. Yasir the man though.
Pakistan 57/4 at stumps on Day in response to England 589/8 dec. Joe Root top scoring with a magnificent knock of 254.
Over in Antigua, Windies are toiling on 130/5 in response to India’s 566/8 dec.
Very good win by England in the second test.
Sri Lanka currently 84/5 in the first session of the first test in Kandy - Josh Hazlewood with three. Stephen O’Keefe just took his first, he took 10 in a tour match last week, they’ve gone with two spinners.
Will be interesting though to see how Australia bat in spin friendly conditions, always the great imponderable with Australia on the sub continent.
87/6 now, Lyon just got one.
Sri Lanka looked like they were sliding to a heavy defeat on 6/2, 45/3 and 86/4 but Mendis remains at the crease unbeaten on 115 and at 160/4 now have a lead of 74. If they push that out to around 200, Australia won’t find it easy batting last.
No doubt the great Steve Smith will bat to victory
The 99 series we lost in Sri Lanka was a real dogfight- We went unbeaten for years after until Laxman and Dravid did their thing in Calcutta.
Sir Garfield Sobers is 80 today.
Sri Lanka 350-9 now, 264 ahead. Australia really toiling out there now, they’ve used 8 different bowlers in this innings!
Sri Lanka all out for 353. Useful last wicket stand of 30. Australia target is 268.
The chase is on, Australia 48-2 now. This is going to go to the wire.
Sri Lanka will walk this.
83/3 at tea.
As expected, Sri Lanka win by 106 runs.
The Number 1 ranked Australia yet again fail overseas when taken out of their comfort zone. That’s only Sri Lanka’s second ever test win over Australia. They previously won in Kandy in 1999 which was enough to ultimately clinch that three test series 1-0 when the other two tests were drawn. Another two batting collapses with only Steven Smith’s with a 55 even registering a half century.
The last Aussie pair faced 154 deliveries without a run. A test record.
