I’ve a lot of money on the Aussies to win the first test. Should I be worried?

Bricking it, yes.

Hard to say yet. If Australia lose a few quick wickets in the first session tonight you’re in trouble. Cook and Root will surely do better in England’s second innings.

That was a wonderful knock by Steve Smith, a real captain’s innings. You feel the winning and losing of this test match hinges on what he does with the bat tomorrow.

Steven Smith is a giant.

Anderson strikes first over with the new ball to dismiss Paine, 202/6.

209/7. Starc c & b Broad.

A quite brilliant century from Steve Smith. This is a cracking test match. Two and a half days in and we still have no idea which way its going to go.

Woakes has finally broken the 8th wicket partnership, Cummins departing on 42. 275/8. England lead down to 27. This wicket is as flat as a pancake now. If both sides bat anyway diligently, this should be a draw. That’s a big if though, with flakiness in both batting orders.

Allister fails again.

The collapse is on 17-2

He’s in dismal form. England need to get to stumps without losing any more wickets or this match could slip away from them very quickly.

Dismal effort from England to bowl out Australia tail. That’s where lack of proper pace was really telling. Woakes and Ball were both essentially passengers.

A really nasty blow to the head for Joe Root. Concussion assessment will be needed here.

Well they said they wanted to end careers…

England make it to the stumps without any more casualties. 33/2. Lead of 7.

Big first session tonight. Either Root or Stoneman need a big score.
