Index funds have increased massively in popularity so you’ll get this concentration. The tail wagging the dog. Tesla goes up, it’s index weighting increases, the passive manager has to buy Tesla.

Investment advisors, manage other people’s money. Blackrock (iShares) and themselves are the big two, manage over $7 trillion each. Vanguard would be historically more known for Mutual funds but have a huge ETF portfolio now as well.
