2RE and/or others, but mainly 2RE. Would you be agreeable to flying out there at short notice if we got to say the semi-finals? I think it might have to be done and i might be able to arrange at least one other comrade to come alongā¦
He hasnāt signed in since Friday, chances are he has some heap of shit basic nokia given his fear of technology, but still, I think we wouldnt want to leave it too long before raising the alarm.
Clarkey are you able to post that picture of bando here? The one where heās togged out in full Irish kit and Boston Celticās head band.
The forum needs to see it. Iām not able to pixalate his massive forehead to protect his anonymity.
It was postponed until Scrunchie gets here.
Thanks Rocko!
I woke up this morning to see my tickets for Italy & Spain on my locker and felt utterly depressed. Thoughts of the party being over before I even get there. I was down, depressed and pissed off. I considered saying fuck it, Iāll stay at home be fooked.
But then I had other memoriesā¦
Of a St. Bloody Ledger header, and the delayed reaction celebration as we awaited the linesmans flag. The hysteria that followed and for brief moments the recession was over.
Of The Barge announcing ā¬3 a pint for duration of match which led to huge cheers of Ole Ole.
Of the hairs standing on the back of me neck as the Irish fans sang the national anthem. Respect!
Our dreams took a hammering last night but not our pride. We punch above our weight in international football. We have the population of an average size city. Soccer is not our no.1 sport. Everything suggests we shouldnāt even qualify but we did. Weāre down but not out. Itās unlikely we will qualify now but we still can believe and hope and most of all support our team, so fook it Iām still going and going there to sing louder, cheer stronger and drink longer.
What a heap of crap. Croatia and Denmark have similar populations to us and they both won their first games. And the soccer crowd continually go on about how soccer is the number one participation sport here.
Not sure if winning the first game is the best barometer you could use but there is a decent point in your argument. I think the adoration of Trap is ridiculous and the plucky nohoper tag annoys me. As you have pointed out many countries are in the same boat as us in terms of resources and some are doing a bit better.
Participation yes. Still not producing enough good footballers though for all the numbers playing the game. The last player we produced with the quality of Luca Modric was Liam Brady so something is going wrong alright.
Denmark played muck against Holland but I saw them spank Portugal in the qualifiers playing constructive football with limited players. I think we can be better even with the players at our disposal. The route one was retarded why not even clip the ball a bit lower so Doyle could take it on his chest like he did a few times to good effect in the first half.
We werenāt helped yesterday by our senior players Given, Dunne, JOS and Keane all playing shit. None of those four looked fit either. Duff too is coming to the end. I think yesterday was striking that these 5 have all seen better days and the end may come a bit quicker for their careers than we may like.
Another fucking thing that annoys me is hearing how well we sung the anthem. When you hear that you know for sure you are in rugby is the heartbeat of the nation event junkie territory. Singing the anthem well should be no consolation when youve had your arse handed to you on a plate by a modest Eastern European statelet.
Not sure why you are using a rugby anecdote when referring to the national anthem. Last time I watched a game of theirs at the āWorld Cupā they played that twee shit from Phil Coulter. The national anthem is disrespected hugely at GAA events.
