i agree with this
its a fucking mess
Would the lads who are threatening to leave be willing to pay @Rocko for a forum that’s along the lines of what they want? And how much would they pay?
I’m not threatening to leave but if Rocko needed a small annual sub (no more than say €2.5-3k each) to keep the show on the road, then I think most right-minded posters, myself included, would be happy to contribute that.
this is fucking retarded, its horrible impossible to navigate the site and read posts in a coherent way, you have made a right hames of it, I can’t even be bothered with it now, ever AFR coder did a better job ffs
:clappy clap:
I’m logging in via desktop for the first time and have some feedback for @Rocko
The home page could be a lot neater - fells quite cluttered or something. Is the font for the topics a bit big? This is probably feeding through to the mobile version also - it could all be a lot tighter.
Do the five circles of the last posters add anything?
I’m also not sure categories mean anything, does anyone actually use them?
When I’m in a topic the text only goes two thirds of the way across the screen - there’s a load of wasted space to the right.
I think the navigation and scrolling will fix itself as we get used to the site. The jumping to old posts is only happening because the system is assuming we haven’t clicked in such a long time.
The amount of white is hard on the eyes.
That’s all for now. @Rocko can you respond to each of the above action items with an estimated date for resolution. Right now I consider them to be all open items.

I don’t like the font. I changed it to make @TreatyStones, @Fran and @anon25556527 happy when they were testing. To be fair that was before I added the green header so they may not be as wedded to the new font as they were previously. Let’s test some fonts later.
They remove some of the dreaded white space. They’re not all the last posters. It’s the first poster, the last poster and the most frequent posters in between. If the first poster and the last poster are the same then there’s a faint blue glow around the first avatar. The number of them can be reduced. Again, I’m not opposed to stylistic changes but there will be more white space if this is removed. I happen to find it mildly attractive. Like @Mac’s wife.
I do, a little. When posters graduate to being able to see the Clique forum it may make more of a difference. They’re hardly much of an intrusion anyway, but they do allow people to navigate straight to sporting topics for example should they wish. I’m going to press for a close on this point given their inoffensiveness.

This is the result of a large amount of research on the optimum reading length for readers. In print we struggle to read more than 50 characters a line. On screen the evidence is that we can manage 75 or so. If you’re ever ironically browsing the New York Times for instance you’ll see how they restrict their article width even more dramatically. See: http://baymard.com/blog/line-length-readability
Now, I did experiment with a slightly wider feel before and am willing to do so again. As with everything else on TFK though, there’s a solid body of research underpinning the work.

I concur. I’d urge you to use your influence to persuade others to adapt.
Perhaps, however reading longer lines is also hard on the eyes. I’m interested in protecting the eyes of our readers. Perhaps a compromise can be reached so they are blinded both by long lines of text and by white space.
Maybe you can revert with feedback on my initial responses and we can put a timeframe against the open actions.
@Rocko Thank you for the prompt response. I’m willing to close all of the above items but reserve the right to come back to them.
One final thought on the width of the text - the vast majority of posts here tend to be quite short and the research you quote is most likely aimed at longer articles, I wouldn’t mind seeing a wider text at some stage to see how it feels.
I’ve just gone onto the Users page for the first time. Some great data in there. @glasagusban throwing likes around.
@Bann_Special has read more posts that anyone on the forum? The fucking cunt has never posted
What does the 84.6k mean @Rocko?
I also got a lovely Safari desktop alert there to let me know @Rocko had replied to my post. I"m coming round to it. Desktop version isn’t actually too bad.
I’m sound like that.
I’ve just changed the font back to the default to see how we like it.
Way too much white on the screen pal, the colour scheme definitely needs to be looked at.
The jury is still out for me on the move to be honest. The craic with the ratings was an enjoyable part of the TFK experience for me.
Also on the main thread page, I’d generally open up a thread based on whether I enjoyed reading such and such a poster…we don’t have that anymore which is a pity.
I still don’t understand why we left the last place. No matter what the arse lickers say Rocko, ths place is ten times worse. I hope you see sense and restore the old forum.
That’s pretty much exactly what I said on first viewing. The home page on the desktop is lacking definition
Well some of the idiots on here are willing to pay a fiver for PV so I’d say at least a tenner
I just don’t like the replies. Facebook can’t get it to work right so I don’t see how @Rocko can. The old way of using the quote was the best.
By that, do you mean it lacks stylistic definition - i.e. too much whitespace, not enough borders etc? Or do you mean it lacks content definition - i.e. it’s not a “curated” list of posts like we had on the old forum, though I assume everyone just skipped straight past the featured posts.
I posted up this example before but @Fran thinks this is the opposite of what you mean:
http://talk.polygonalweave.com/latest
I think that’s more like what you were looking for (ignore the “featured thread” type pictures at the top).
The banner at the top on the mobile site appears to have gone full white.
Hmmm… can you refresh and check it’s still like that?
