@Locke, @Kyle was down in your vicinity and went for a lovely run this morning along the greenway out to Passage West. Village has seen better days but the scenery along the estuary made the miles pass easily
It’s a lovely run. And yeah, Passage needs tending to, but always has in the 25 years or so I’ve been down here. Did you get to Blackrock and do the full Greenway?
I am a recent convert to running/fun running and focusing on the 5ks for now; First run was 26 and a half minutes about 6 weeks ago have gotten down to 23:40 with my latest.
Great stuff. Are you doing the parkruns every week? It’s great when you can see clear progress.
Great stuff. Do you have any race goals?
A wise man once told me your running should be largely easy pace with a little fast & not to forget the odd medium-long distance run too.
A bit of S&C also beneficial & running with a group/club can change your life in ways you never thought possible.
I’ve just gone and bought one of the early bird Donadea 50k entries for next year in a moment of pure madness ![]()

23.40 is nice clipping in fairness, always found 5k probably the toughest distance. You should be giving sub 20 a good rattle before the year is out.
Thanks mate. No race goals yet mate no; just continue to try to get the times down and see where we go from there. I have a race next month in Kilrush where I hope to get to the mid to low 22s if at all possible. But that’s the limits of my ambitions at present. Maybe a 10k over the summer.
I did a “Zone 2” run last night but found it incredibly tedious and boring; taking half an hour to do 4km like seems like an absolute waste but I suppose the benefits are intangible, as American sports media would say. I am doing some light dumbbell and HIIT work to add the general fitness levels.
@TreatyStones I’ve done a couple of the park runs now. A nice event to attend with none of the mean spiritedness associated with association football or GGA.
You’ll love it as running is for steamers
Run a bit faster for shorter
A bit slower for longer
Another bit even slower for even longer
Do that and you won’t be far off making LA 2028
Whats the logic behind zone 2 runs as you put it?
Not sure of the exact science, but the aim is to increase the number of mitochondria which are essentially the batteries of our cells. That is why long runs should be done slowly. The mitochondria come in handy when you are going hard for a prolonged stint in a race.
Looks like myself and @tallback might have been close enough to each other this evening for parts of the Dublin 5 mile night run. Some good clipping from him.
Lovely route around the Quays and Docklands. Few sneaky hills in the last 2 miles. We got a 1 hour window with little to know wind or rain apart from a headwind from Beckett bridge to the Point. Lost all sense of orientation on Sheriff St and thought I was running away from city centre only to realize it was the 7km mark and we were heading back towards the Liffey.
Great running from you too - we must have been very close across the line!
Considering the yellow warning it turned out to be a very pleasant run and decent event. Racing along the quays is deadly
A lot to be said for pure flat routes like that. Would always try to build it into Dublin runs if I can. At lunchtime you’d get the added bonus of @Bandage hurtling along on a Dublin Bike past you frothing at the prospect of a Roaster Curry and a Bailey’s Coffee.
Well done @Mac that was great running on the mean streets of Dublin last night
Just in the door at home after the Milford 10k. Super crowd, I’d say around 2 to 2.5k between runners and walkers. UL is ideal for it. Small complaint is that they let the walkers and runners go at the same time so there was a lot of dodging yummy mummy’s with buggy’s and lads with dogs early doors. Took another 5 minutes off my time from the Tom Walsh 10k in Caherconlish a month ago so happy with that. Disappointed to miss the midweek run in Dublin as I had to come home for a funeral. Happy overall with how things are going so time to step it up now and really push on for the half marathon the May weekend.
Great stuff, you’re flying it. I never got into doing the races. I probably should but they just feel like hassle to me. I dunno why. I’m odd.
I like the training and planning that goes into a race. I don’t like doing the race though
As a man said 'if you’re enjoying it you’re doing it wrong "
