I don’t mind it, company has a fairly good culture and work life balance compared to similar roles I’ve had in the past. Travel is what it is but we do get a lot done in the 4 or 5 days which makes them very beneficial compared to trying to do Skype calls or email chains.
Thankfully there is little expectation that we need to dial in after working hours or from home to meetings with West coast colleagues. Again there is a small bit of give and take, once a forthnight I might stay til 6pm to facilitate something with them while the following week they will come in an hour early to facilitate me but that is about the height of it.
I will gladly take a transatlantic trip 8 times a year if it means I have a 37.5 hour work week and a balanced workload. I was previously doing 50+ hours a week and getting on average 4 or 5 calls a week in the evening/weekends and arriving into 40+ new emails every morning. I’d do well to get 40 emails in two days in this role.
The other major plus is that my posting during the working day on TFK has also gone up since taking the gig as well
Far anyone who has been delayed on flights. Happened to me a couple of times recently.
Following a 2009 European Court ruling, you are now entitled to compensation if you arrive at your destination 3 hours or more after the scheduled arrival time unless the air carrier can prove that the delay was the result of extraordinary circumstances. If a dispute arises between you and your air carrier regarding the existence of extraordinary circumstances and the payment of compensation, the matter should be referred to the appropriate enforcement body.
The amount of compensation payable depends on the distance of the flight. If the flight is classed as:
• short haul, the amount payable is €250 per person.
• medium haul, the amount payable is €400 per person.
• long haul, the amount payable is €600 per person.
I got bumped off a US flight home before with work. Only delayed me 4 or 5 hours but they gave me a cheque on the spot for over $1,000. Federal law apparently
Shannon is some dream to fly out of for me, it’s a pity they haven’t a few more destinations.
45 minutes after I left my house I was through security and sipping a coffee.
Cork is an absolute dream. We flew from there on holidays this year. Our return flight got in at 4.30 and I was in front of the telly for the throw in to the Munster football final
