TFK Summer Run Series Event 3: The 10:10:21.1

Hi all,

As the dust settles in the 5km, I’m setting up a thread for the third event. The hope is that lads will step up their distances from previous races, but at the end of that, just get out and do fucking something.

Earmarked for the August bank holiday weekend. I know this is a busy time for traveling etc. for many so will take a time logged any time that week if someone can’t run at weekend. Will take times up to the Monday night, August 3rd.

Three distances to pick from - 10km, 10 miles (16.1km) or half marathon (21.1km/13.1 miles). For those of you with a bit of time over your hands over the bank holiday weekend, there’s also the option to run more than one race.

If runners are in a position to afford to do so, they are encouraged to make a small donation to a charity of their choice to mark their participation. There is no need to let everyone know how much you donated, but if you’d like to mention the charity, feel free to do so.

Be good to get a handle on numbers, so we know who is doing what. Don’t be afraid to put forward your goals either

Best of luck all. Any questions?

I hope to do the half. I’m not sure if I’ll do it on road or on the trails.

If I do it on the road, I’d like to land 1’50ish up to 1’55. I’ve only ran one on road half race before (and a few off) and that was 4 years ago at 1’46. I’d be thrilled to go sub 1’50 if I am to be honest. My longest road run this year was yesterday (14.3km) so I’ve a bit to go (have done 17/18km off road)

Will aim to do 10 miles in 65.xx mins. Might be a tad ambitious.

Put me down for the half marathon distance provisionally. Hurling championship will be back at that stage though so any knocks could well see me drop distance or not do it though.

Throw me down for the 10k provisionally. I possibly won’t train specifically for the distance as I’ll be hoping to be back doing a small bit of football training at that stage and will be focusing more on speed work.

I had hoped to have a good few more kms on the clock by now but wasnt to be … I’ll chance the 10 miler but may drop back to 10k closer to the day.

I’ll give the 10km a go. Havent ran more than 5km at a timed run and havent done more than 7 or 8ks handy running. If I do it in an hour I’d be happy, but not sure I’d have the distance in my legs just yet.

it’s in your head, not your legs brah.

I’d manage it, but could be crawling by the end! Got my 25 in the 5k so that was my main focus when I started, anything after is bonus territory, plus keeping some semblance of fitness up too.

Do, rub in the sub 25 …

Thought we were going vertical, put in some work today in miserable conditions, literally possible to stand up on the top of Torc mountain, lost my favourite hat

Vertical is mid August mate

Great running mate, hope yer having a nice holiday :+1:

I had hoped to be doing the half but I’ll go for 10 mile. Would love to get close to 1:20 but I’d say under 1:23 is more realistic.

Same as you I’d say. I doubt I’ll get up to 10 miler by then

I’ll go 10k

1:23 is my fastest time and that was a few years ago and I was hopping. You’re not getting close to that. 90 mins is a good time for you

My 10 mile PB is around 1:22. I did 1:25 there last Thursday albeit broken into 2x8km’s with a few mins break in between.
