On the back of Dan’s ski thread from yesterday, I am starting up the 2009 travel thread.
This is where information such as Bandages christmas train journey can be pooled for the greater good.
If you are organising a stag weekend in deepest Latvia, a romantic break to the maldives with a loved one, a champions league trip to Cyrpus, or 2 night stay in bunclody, this is the thread.
I will kick things off.
I am planning a few days in San Sebastian around Easter, has anybody been before, whats the best bet for flights etc…

have been a few times -fantastic place - great beaches - great food- brilliant night life in the old town- loads of small little bars next to each other for a beer crawl
first time i went flew to bilbao(aer lingus) & got a bus up which is a few hours - coming back four of us got a taxi which was about an hour & was about 20 euros each.
if you have an hour to spare you could look at the guggenheim in bilbao
next time i stayed & flew in biarritz & hired a car - spent a few days in biaritz & just spent a day in san sebastian-
i absolutely love the place & plan another trip soon
in the old town there is a street dedicated to the ETA struggle
hotels are expensive enough - ill try & remember where i stayed before
hopefully the weather will be good at easter
dancing baby & croppy were also there- they might have further tips
good stuff ncc… was thinking of the Biaritz option, and maybe doing a night there and 3 in SS…
much cop in Biaritz… have up to a week to knock about so might head home via Bilboa or Madrid… even though it is probably complicated to rent a car in Biaritz and leave it back at a spanish airport… Thoughts ?

actually - i had to pick someone up from bilbao airport & got a bus back -thats how i know the bus takes it time- we flew out from bilbao airport though
how we got there was that we flew to Barca- spent a few days there & got an overnight train with a sleeping compartment from barca to san sebastian
biarritz is very nice too - great beach ,good restaurants etc - id prefer san sebastian though but both are great -
im sure the main car hire companies would let you do that but sometimes thye put a surcharge for going into different companies- biarritz is as close to san sebastian as bilbao- its about an hourso you might as well drop the car back there- driving into san sebastian was tough as i wasnt 100% sure where to go
Going to Aberdeen at the end of this month for 4 days to visit a girl in college over there. Was there last year and not much going for it but its good craic all the same.
Might pick up a cheap laptop if the exchange rate holds.
The three city tour. Its going to be off the hook.
Going to Manchester this weekend for United- Chelsea. Any good spots. First weekend there. When I was there for other matches they were midweek Champions League matches and going back the morning after.
There is no need to fly to Barcelona if you are going to the Basque country unless you have time on your hands and really want to see Barcelona. The trains in Spain can be expensive, and if the bus journey is as picturesque as the one from Bilbao-Biarritz, I’d pick the bus over the train all day long. I haven’t spent much time in San Sebastin but I’d echo what NCC said; great beaches, great food, great bars, although the old town can be a bit rough. I’d definitely spend a day in Bilbao if I was in SS. I lived in Bilbao for a year and along with Madrid, it would be my favourite city in Europe. Cheap accomodation shouldn’t be too hard to find in either city to be honest, and likewise cheap and cheap drink. Can’t say much about nightclubs in San Sebastian but there is no shortage of options for nightlife in Bilbao depending on what kind of scene you are into. I go to Bilbao once a year, and always fly direct with Aer Lingus. If you book it in advance there should be little benefit in opting for Biarritz with Ryanair. There are plenty of shops and casinos in Biarritxz, but it wouldn’t be my favourite place on earth tbh.

aberdeen is a great city for a session.
The waters are not overfished by irish either over there

Go to South nightclub in town, I think Clint Boon still DJs on Saturday nights. That’s where I went when I was over for the Newcastle game in August, and I’d go again next time I’m over. The Green Windmill out near the Drum in Stretford is also supposed to be a decent club night but I haven’t been.
Going to Wrestlemania but thankfully not with Flano and Shan. Myself, cesc4 and Jugs shall be having a house meeting this weekend to sort things out as we only have the hotel for Wrestlemania weekend booked and haven’t decided where to go for a few days either side of the big event in Houston. So, we need to sort out what other cities to hit as part of our trip and get cracking on flights. Anyone got any recommendations for US cities around the Texas region or around the middle of the country? We’ve all done New York, Boston etc before and Vegas too so considering not so common cities.
I’ll also be going to numerous Celtic games over the next couple of months but they’re straightforward day trips.

Jeez Bandage. The big dance is less than 3 months away. Flano, myself and Ball have everything booked and paid for. Just stay out of Vegas after Mania.
Heading to Milano for the Inter-United game at the end of Feb but have just been told that it might not be as easy as usual to get tickets for the home end. Looks like I will be in with the animals

Will be there myself, Manchester is pretty shite on a Sunday Night, pubwise anyway. Most close by 11, won’t be going to mad, early flight next morning. Saturday night i’d say it’s a case of take your pick, avoid Brannigans though.
