Was only there for a few hours, but seems like a savage city. Meaning to go back for a few days.
Bring a change of clothes if it’s a long weekend.
Never been to Berlin but a few of my mates were there during the summer and it sounds like it is one of the biggest party capitals on the planet, can’t imagine you will have trouble having a good time there.
A gang of us are supposed to be going to Newcastle in February but doubt I wil get going TBH…
went to the love parade in Berlin a few years ago - great place
Going to Wrestlemania but thankfully not with Flano and Shan. Myself, cesc4 and Jugs shall be having a house meeting this weekend to sort things out as we only have the hotel for Wrestlemania weekend booked and haven’t decided where to go for a few days either side of the big event in Houston. So, we need to sort out what other cities to hit as part of our trip and get cracking on flights. Anyone got any recommendations for US cities around the Texas region or around the middle of the country? We’ve all done New York, Boston etc before and Vegas too so considering not so common cities.
I’ll also be going to numerous Celtic games over the next couple of months but they’re straightforward day trips.
Having a Brad Pitt here in work and on the phone so can’t type much but give Dallas a try, there is a museum in the book depository where Oswald alledgedly shot JFK from, it was brilliant. Once you’ve been to this museum you will be left in no doubt that there was a second gun man involved.
While you’re at it look up Bill Hicks JFK on YouTube.
Mammy put the foot down again?
If only rintintin…Probably won’t hav the time or the money TBH…
Time Pukey??? You’re a student ffs
A final year student that has a dissertation to be writing over the next month or two tinnion…And I have a habit of dragging the bollocks of things like that…
Gaylord
A dissertation for Public Admin? Sure you could that in 20 minutes. It’d be like an Ann & Barry book.
We have been through this before I am not doing public admin…
HPSS – 25 minutes
I was only ever in Berlin the once, but it was defintely the right year to go - 1990. Our family, led by my battleaxe of a granny (a tough northern woman if ever there was one), went inter-railing around Germany that year - we weren’t ones for sun holidays. Was only 10 at the time but it was a hugely educational experience to see what was happening. Got to chisel out some of the Berlin Wall and still have it at home.
The Fallas festival in Valencia from around the 15th up to the night of the 19th of March is really good. Was at it in 2004. They build these massive paper mache monumants - incredibly elaborate and beautiful things (some of them up to 20 or 30 feet high) and place them at evey street intersection in the city. There are hundreds of the things. Each day leading up to the 19th there are big fireworks displays in the day and night and big street parties at night. I went to a street party outside the Mestalla stadium which went on until about 7 in the morning which was savage. Unfortunately the Mestalla is being demolished at the end of the season which is a real shame as it was one of the most atmospheric stadiums in the world.
Anyway on the night of the 19th all the monuments are burned at midnight. It takes literally only a minute for them to be totally destroyed - probably a year’s work by the makers of each monument gone in the blinking of an eye.
Valencia’s a lovely city too - some excellent architecture and big wide boulevards. Santiago Calatrava who designed the James Joyce bridge over the Liffey is from there and has designed some very futuristic buildings.
Not sure if there’s direct flights to Valencia anymore but we went via Girona and got the train down and back.

Not sure if it counts but Im in london for the wkend. Gonna see the mighty Forest travel to the Valley on Saturday(Assuming its not called off) and maybe end up in Fabric or Fridge that night to celebrate, and for the memories.
Berlin is a savage spot.
Very funky and alternative city. All the freaks in Germany gravitated there in the old days and they stayed there. Hotels.com should get you a decent hotel for an ok amount.
Mitte is the best spot to stay- stay on the East side if you can, should be cheaper also less corporate.
Did a great walking tour there a few years ago, takes an afternoon and is a great intro to the city.
The museum island is fantastic altogether.
I’m trying to book a weekend skiing but the flights are yoyoing up and down and I’m waiting for the optimum moment.
I need to take the missus (pregnant) away for a weekend soon- either in Ireland or a very short flight away. Any suggestions?

Good work WBY.
