Twas fucking tragic
The organisers blamed the poor fucker for his own death. The track was designed solely with speed in mind. It’s the fastest track out there with sliders likely to hit speeds of 143 or 144kmh. He flew out of the track and hit a pole and I think was killed instantly. Once he got airborne like that there was only one outcome. They should have had a safer design that would have kept a slider in if they crashed.
They started the men’s luge from the women’s start point in the hope of slowing them down a bit. These athletes shouldn’t be taking their lives in their hands in an Olympic race. Crazy stuff
The blue riband event of the alpine skiing (men’s downhill) went off this evening having been postponed on Saturday evening due to a slushy course.
Bode went out on an early bib number of 9 and put in a great time; 154.4 almost 0.8 better than the previous best. His early bib number meant he was likely to hold the lead until the big hitters came out in the middle of the race. And so it came to pass. First he was beaten by .02 by Norway’s Axel Lund Svindal at bib number 17. Bode’s speed at the top of the mountain was surpassed by Svindal who skied the bottom half of the course much better. With the sun coming out, visibility improved and Switzerland’s DeFago was next down the mountain. He took the gold medal position by 0.07 sec from Svindal. A near identical descent to Svindal’s but a smoother run was just enough for him. The next few down disappointed and it was left to Didier Cuche in the 22 bib as the pre race favourite, he wasn’t able to replicate his countryman’s precision though and was unhappy with his 6th place.
Bode looked a bit sour to only get bronze but its probably the best he could hope for from his starting bib, DeFago was delighted.

I’m watching some kind of snowboarding event on BBC2 now and I just saw that some of the competitors are wearing a pair of jeans. In fact it looks like one of of them has just one the gold medal. Winning an Olympic gold medal while wearing a pair of jeans? Sorry, not a sport.
The Canadians will be happy but it was in the moguls, not a proper sport in my mind.

Combining the wintersports and lovely ladies- tonight’s the night for Lindsey Vonn; women’s downhill is due off at around 9pm- unfortunately I noted today that her coach is also her husband.
