Skehill wont really be called into play with the way i have him protected. Curran with Hannon sitting deep will take away any space for Edward Brennan - With Galvin / Kenny swooping deep to help the half back line i’ll suffocate the bollix out of you.
A better half back - but it’s your call bro.
Will the Gillane you picked be the version that lets the Hurley fall out of his hand every time he sees the goal?
I’d worry he’ll see the game out tbh, his mentality isn’t good & Paul Curran will expose that. Like Tipp in 2009, 14 men will come up short.
I don’t think either Timmy or Prender were inconsistent, per se, they were just limited enough hurlers. But the reason both are so popular picks is because they did deliver pretty much every day they went out. They are both grafters and you need that. In the modern game, Prendergast would never be played at full-forward because he just doesn’t have the scoring threat. But he was a serious ballwinner and would disrupt a centre-back no end.
And as skilful as Mannion is, he’s as guilty as any of just lumping the ball down on top of forwards when precision was needed. Some of Galway’s distribution, particularly in 2018 & 2019, would nearly make you cry. Now admittedly, Browne wasn’t above that either but with Gardiner, Hannon & Maher; I think I’ve got a decent blend of distributors to feed Shaughs & Eddie inside.
No. I’ve coached that out of him.
It’s really tight, would you have home advantage in a replay?
I don’t like Gillane as he is a snide enough fucker on the field but there is no doubting his ability. He has had far more games where he has ran amuck than he has been held. Excellent in the air, good point taker and free taker, just needs to rattle home the goals more consistently. He is well worth the 8 points
Agree 100% - If he adds more goals he could potentially be one of Limerick’s greatest ever … the prick acting is a double edge sword, some times you need it other times it’s brainless.
The Covid-Park crowd are worth an extra man.
It’s not just shot stopping; he gives no confidence to his backs; he’ll still have to take puckouts. Beyond launching it (quite long admittedly), he just doesn’t have it. Drop deep on the puckouts and he can land it on top of a pod of Gardiner/Hannon/Browne/Kenny/Maher all he likes.
We’ve worked on that bro. He’ s a far more mature player this year.
Neither delivered every day they went out, both are the epitomy of inconsistent hurlers who have just about enough good games where they are effective to make you think that today might be the day they do it again before being subbed off early in the second half.
Prendergast at least was a big bull of a man who could be a target man. Two of them in the one line is russian roulette with 4 bullets in the chamber.
The best of luck pal -
Especially now that he has figured out how to hold on to his hurl and ball at the same time.
May the best team win.
Although, if Jim-Bob was listed; I’d have picked him to replicate his Davy moment on you.
Gillane, Jamsie and Ben O’Connor are all very good value at 8 as they are/were hugely consistent and I don’t recall any of the three ever being bullied despite not being huge men and subject to tight markers.
I’d also think that Dan, Paul Flynn and Eddie Brennan are worth the 8 for the x factor and ability to turn a game on it’s head with a goal out of nothing as they all did many times.
Eddie Brennan is head and shoulders a better player than all those others
I honestly wasn’t overly enamoured with any of the 8-point options; Brennan was the only one that I thought was worth the downgrade in my half-forward line. Now, the 10-pointers were well worth it but I couldn’t justify weakening my overall forward line that much.
