So 45000 people came into 26 Counties during a 12 month period, people who are not returning Irish, UK, EU or Ukrainian. Can anyone break down the composition of that 45000 people? How many of them, for instance, came to work in Ireland for a company?
Sorry if my own quick count is out by 10000, which it is, exactly as you note. 63000 minus 28000 equals 35000.
But core point remains, of course. Can this group of 35000 people be further analysed? I am presuming that a significant amount came to Ireland because they got a job here. Are there any other categories involved apart from ‘asylum seekers/refugees’?
There’s loads of categories. Work permits, dependents of work permit holders, family reunification, investors in Louth GAA etc. I don’t know where you’d get a break down of them though.
Thanks. What you cite is logical. What I am wondering is the obvious question: how high a percentage of this 35000 strong group are asylum seekers/refugees/illegal economic migrants?
The debate around immigration is important – but hard to carry out with much point unless the relevant figures are known.
I’m sure it can, but via FOI. It is not readily available on the CSO website, as the countries forming the “rest of the world” cohort has been scrubbed.
