The latter I think. Don’t think they were overtly political either way.

There was also a music movement at the end of the 70s, called the Anti Disco League which was just a cover for racism.

Jimmy Pursey took Sham 69’s name from a piece of football graffiti that had been mainly cleaned over - Walton & Hersham 69.

What’s the evidence fascists have latched onto oasis? In any greater numbers than fascists have latched onto anything

Well the guy who signed them thought they were fascists, and he’s a Rangers fan.

He was wrong though was he

Listening to Noel Gallagher over the last few years you’d have your doubts as to whether he was wrong.

Oasis were and are attractive to fascists because they were and are all white men (please note I am not saying being a white man or even a group of white men makes you a fascist). Because they played what could arguably be stereotyped as aggressive “men’s music”, and their music largely harked backwards to previous eras. Again this is obviously not fascist but it is a prerequisite for fascists to like you.

They used the union jack heavily. They were into conspicuous consumption. They adopted a football hooligan persona. They were explicitly anti-intellectual, even though Noel Gallagher himself was deeply intelligent.

In the 2000s their music became increasingly lumpen and so too did their crowds. I know because I was part of some of those crowds. There was an underbelly of, I don’t know how to describe it other than boorish grunt among those crowds. The same sort of stuff you hear a lot at association football matches. Fascism still wasn’t very big in the 2000s though. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of carry on happens at these concerts this summer, if any.

I don’t think fascists latch onto, say, Blur or Pulp in the same way at all. Blur were too art school. Jarvis Cocker was too foppish. Morrissey was foppish too I suppose and the fascists love him now though because he basically is one, which to the best of my knowledge Jarvis Cocker is not.

I read that article too. I think you’re overdoing it. Most of what you’re describing there is just normal, mostly working class young (and now not so young) lads. Not the most refined but not jaysusing fascist either.
What kind of carry on in England or more specifically Ireland would make it fascist?

But I didn’t say they were fascist. I said they were attractive to fascists. Which they are. At least until the fascists find out Liam Gallagher votes for the Green Party.

They’re attractive to a lot of non-fascists too. Of which I’m one. Because I like their music.

If you want to argue with a straw man, find one.

Is this true about Liam

Saying fascists have latched onto oasis was a ridiculous comment that you have absolutely no evidence for bar they had some uncouth fans 20 years ago who you think might be fascist now.

Or it’s a statement of the bleedin’ obvious.

Fair enough. they’ve latched on to Liverpool in huge numbers too.

Only among a few dullards on this forum, not in real life. Liverpool FC is more despised by the far right than any other club in Britain bar Celtic because i) Liverpool is the most left-wing city in England ii) the Hillsborough fight for justice and iii) because Liverpool supporters boo God Save The Queen.

What a load of bollox

Lolz, you’re drunk and in denial

There are just as many likely fascists in the Liverpool support as there are in the oasis support. To say otherwise is cloud cuckoo land stuff.

You’re rambling now and you didn’t even address the facts of my post two previous because you couldn’t.
