Ive always thought tubridy was a bit of a smart arse cunt and fairly poor at his job. I don’t think he’s done anything all that wrong at all here really. Seems I’m in a minority of almost one on that though. It’s literally being painted just as bad as if he stole money from a charity or something. Did he make a big deal at some stage about taking a pay cut as some have suggested? Surely that would be as bad as anything given the money he was on

I agree. A lot of ANGRY people on the INTERNET like to SHOUT about things they haven’t a clue about.
It is really because he held himself out as being righteous and was prone to pontificating.

The salaries are obscene though, especially in the context of none of them being any good.
Michael Lyster, Bill O’Herlihy, Pat Kenny, Joe Brolly, Eamon Dunphy, George Hook, Prime Spillane and Marian Finucane, even fucking Tom McGurk were great broadcasters.
If you’d said 20 years ago, Brendan O’Connor would’ve had the career he has had. Sarah McInerney, Claire Byrne, Darragh…they’re news reporters. There are no stars, no one can talk, the manner of the likes of Joanne and McInerney is atrocious, they play the antagonist but can’t back it up. Pat Kenny is a cunt but could go toe to toe with anyone. Next man up, Matt Cooper!

Wouldn’t think there’s anything illegal here. But he did a secret deal with RTÉ that would have given them more clout to seek pay reductions from their other staff and look for increased licence fee payments. Tubbers can’t have been unaware that that was the effect of the arrangement. Legally fine. Morally questionable.
