He rigorously maintained he took a 20% paycut and insisted the 75k side deal was separate and unconnected. The two happened as part of the same negotiations, it’s not a tenable position, it’s ridiculous. Like you said, divorced from reality, sees himself as a paragon of virtue, and would prefer to believe his own lies than admit he did anything wrong.
