Would RTE fail to function if those high earners were not there? Look at Pat Kenny and the big fuss that was made of him leaving and he had barely set the world alight, infact O’Rourke is much better than him.
The moaning about her pay is stupid.
Firstly, Dobson is the experienced one. Generally, seniority pays. It has happened in non gender aspects as well- I can recall those two breakfast presenters who moved from FM104 to 2fm years ago had wildly different pay, despite them both being partners. Both men but one far older than the other.
Secondly, we don’t know the actual specifics on who works more days. Dobson generally lead anchors big elections or event coverage. Does she work the same amount of days?
Finally, she told the Sunday Independent that she was well aware that Dobson was ahead of her. She unlike many others is blessed with information about her salary and those working close to her. A lack of information on one side is one of the real ways employers have advantages over employees. It’s up to her to negotiate her way to a better deal. If she is really worth more, then maybe TV3 will take her.
All the salaries shows is that those at the so called top, get paid more, including women.
There might be an argument that women aren’t pushed more, but there so many variables in individuals situations and negotiating skill.
Well those are type of salaries we know the private sector pays.
The BBC’s aren’t out of this world.
Just because they are public service doesn’t mean they should do bargain basement broadcasting.
Paying the “talent” big money justifies paying the minions in the background good money as well.

2fm have been chasing Gerry Ryan’s ghost for years. He was probably the best advertisement for justifying his salary. The station fell off a cliff without him. RTÉ Radio 1 is an entirely different beast it seems, immune to wider competition.
I’d give him a million and an MBE if he would shoot Paul McCartney.
