The 2009 Ashes Series

Australia will win and Australia will win at ease.

That works perfect thanks rock

Is the sun out? Any swing for the bowlers?

Neither really. Sun isn’t out but it’s not overcast really. Ball hasn’t swung at all. Flat enough start from Australia.

Siddle gets Cook!!! Edged to Ponting. Poor shot.

12-1

Johnson has Bell in all sorts of trouble with the short balls but he’s surviving for the moment anyway.

For the moment?

He’ll still be batting after tea.

He needs to. Clicking on ok at the moment, 29. Prob be out in the over before lunch like in 2005

Strauss only has the shot to square leg in his armoury, shouldn’t be long before Ponting closes this avenue which will see him reach and soon after he will out.

Capataincy in a nutshell…

He’ll probably suggest strongly, possibly via a Tweet, that England tampered with one side of the coin, or at the very least that it wasn’t tossed in the spirit of the game.

108/1 at lunch. A lot to do but not a bad recovery. Particularly encouraging from an England point of view is the number of boundaries (7x4s for Bell and 10x4s for Strauss) which have been ominously absent for England at times in this series. Bell seems to have weathered the early storm.

Meanwhile, up the island in Aberdeen, the bloody weather looks like it will save the Scots:

Ireland 202 & 303
Scotland 208 & 72/5 (31.0 ov)

No play so far today due to weather and Umpire Paul Baldwin has confirmed that the latest they can play up to tonight will be 7.00pm. The groundsmen say once it has stopped raining it could take up to 90 minutes to remove all the casual water and take all the covers off.

A draw gives 3 points to both teams along with Scotland’s six points from the first innings lead, but there are 14 points awarded for outright victory.

Bell’s been lucky to last this long. Australian attack has fizzled out good bit now though. Early wicket after lunch could see them tumbling.

Right on cue. Good man Hilfenhaus.

Struass edged to Haddin.

Big wicket.

I see what you mean about Warne calling for spin a lot. In fairness I think he has a point though. Despite the wicket Australians do look little one dimensional

Warne’s digging away at Collingwood here.

Having a right go at him (not the first time today) for not moving up the order earlier on to protect Bopara.

Then after saying that for ages he says “the one thing England will be worried about him moving up the order is his technique. It’s poor.”

Now he says Clark will enjoy bowling at him.

Definitely some animosity there.

Strauss bottles it again, ever notice anytime he gets to a landmark be it 3 figures or lunch hes out almost immediately afterwards?

I remember Warnie giving Collingwood a right going over the MBE he received for being a fielder in 1 test in 2005. The animosity comes from there and whatever happened between them at that time.

Unfair. He hadn’t played a bad shot all day. Start of play after any break is always risky for the batsmen. Didn’t Anderson or Onions take two wickets with the first two balls of the day in one of the earlier tests (can’t remember which now).

Bell has his 50 up now also.

It’s a recurring problem for Strauss though. You’re just comparing it with isolated examples.

Strauss did it the morning he was on 161 as well (relatively speaking a decent score I suppose).

Warne and Colly must hate each others guts.
