The 2010 Ryder Cup

  • Who’s shaping up to have the stronger squad?
  • Who will Monty choose as his wild card picks?
  • Will Tiger play his way into the team?
  • Will Pavin choose him if he doesn’t get into the automatic eight?
  • Any early thoughts on foursomes and fourball partnerships?
  • Is Celtic Manor worthy of hosting this prestigious event?
  • Why is golf so fucking shit?
  • What would you consider to be the strongest teams for each continent?

3 more weeks of qualifying events to go. Pádraig Harrington still has a little bit of work to do to seal his automatic place.

Delighted that this doesn’t clash with the All-Ireland Football Final. It would have been very disappointing to miss a potential first Dublin All-Ireland win in 15 years.

I’m going to this but will be extremely disappointed if Tiger doesn’t appear.

Surely it was tongue in cheek by Monty yesterday when he spoke very highly of Bernhard Langer and was considering him for one of the captain’s picks

This event should prove to be a massive boost to the Welsh economy. I think conservative estimates in the Irish media suggested it would bring roughly €20billion to our economy when it was held here.

Monty’s vice-captains are Clarke, McGinley and Bjorn. Who has Pavin mustered up as his support?

Will Westwood make it? Has a calf injury that isnt responding to treatment. If he doesn’t make it then Harrington should get the last automatic spot. Westwood would be a huge loss to the European team though.

Woods would be no loss to the US team though his absence might adversely affect TV audiences.

I’d personally like to see the two Italian brothers make it; they’ll be guaranteed to bring passion and charisma. I’ll never, ever forget Costantino Rocca’s hole in one on the Saturday in Oakland Hills in 1995.

U.S. captain Corey Pavin has selected four vice captains: Tom Lehman , Jeff Sluman , Davis Love and Paul Goydos .

Tom Lehman, Davis Love,Jeff Sluman and…I can’t quite remember who the 4th is

I think it’s Paul Goydos, mate.

1995 was Oak Hill. Oakland Hills was 2004. A wonderful triumph for Irish sporting ecumenism when Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley and Darren “Give me the orange bit” Clarke held the tricolour aloft.

I see Garcia has pulled out of this

Our economy was flying until the Ryder Cup ruined it.

Disappointing merged incorrect memory by myself there.

The quality of the vice captains is usually the decisive factor in who wins Samuel Ryder’s famous old trophy and I don’t see this year being any different.

Has he? Why? Embarrassed turning up with his mother as his +1 for every one he’s played in?

I’m still seething over the time the Americans trampled across the green when we still had a putt left to save the game/match/tie/threesome

Is taking a few months out of the game, think he is struggling for form and with injury…He has a very good record in the Ryder Cup in fairness to him…Also heard today that Woods has the second worst record in the Ryder Cup of any American player

Brookline, 1999. As Sam Torrance so rightly said, ‘And to think Tom Lehman calls himself a man of God.’ Fucking bastard. :guns:

Payne Stewart’s plane crash and 9/11 were karma for the Americans’ behaviour that weekend.

yep that’s him. cheers mate - would have been racking my brains all night trying to think of that
