You could equally argue that being Minister for Health in this government is a surefire ticket to never becoming Fine Gael leader.

I’d imagine what he thinks doesn’t matter two fucks when it comes to being the next leader. Being close to enda would be a disadvantage. I reckon it’ll be Coveney anyway. No way the hard rights will accept an uppity gay lad as leader.

Leo was fucked into Health to kill his career. The fact that he was re elected and got another ministers job can only be a positive to him and 2 fingers to Enda
Kenny has effectively sidelined both of his likely successors here. Varadkar and Coveney have been demoted and his chosen horse, Frances Fitzgerald has been elevated to Tánaiste and retains a ministry that, by today’s standards, is a pudding.
He is, in actual terms, a lame-duck Taoiseach presiding over a Government with an optimistic shelf life of 12-18 months.
It displays the gormlessness of an individual who knows he’s fucked and yet is trying to retain an influence on who succeeds him.
