It’s surprising the dimensions of the in-goal areas aren’t standardised much more because the size of them can have a material impact on tactical play, ie. it should lead to more cross field kicking or grubber kicks through for players to run onto.
One of the noteworthy features of watching ye olde Rugby League on Grandstand back in the day was how tiny the in goal areas were. Murrayfield used to have huge in goal areas in the period after the stadium was redeveloped.
Association football seems to have gone stone mad on standardising such irrelevancies as goal stanchions. Variety of goal stanchions was one of the underrated joys of watching the game in general.

2008 got Eddie O’Sullivan the sack.
