Are those raised beds rabbit proof? I’m haunted with the little furry cunts.
I was only on about this two days ago, I have not seen sight nor sound of a rabbit in 2 years. A young hare just hopped along the garden yesterday and that the first one of them I’ve seen in a few years too!
Stops the carrot fly alright
Spuds sprayed for blight. Should be in time.
I took up the kitchen garden idea in the middle of last summer and tried a few things this year.
I have been experimenting with Basil & Coriander (I had the time). Quite frustrating but you do learn. Basil will stay in pots on the window from here on. Coriander hates being moved / transplanted.
I painted up a few old christmas hamper baskets to match the shed, lined them with old compost bags and put them outside the back door facing south. The lettuce and rocket has been great, although the rocket is going over now. The few basil plants have been overwhelmed. Some of the coriander got going, eventually.
I put lettuce varieties, garlic, spring onion, rocket and coriander in a raised bed. All going fine but will be interesting to see how the garlic works out as I planted it in March.
Keep the rocket thinned, it grows like mad
It is well named. I gave it a haircut a few days back for pizza and it needs another one now.
Nice though
It’ll take over your garden if you’re not careful, like mint.
Basil needs a lot of heat, best to grow it under plastic like a mini polytunnel.
Ya that’s for sure, I normally plant it in box’s,easier to control and I find more people in the house use it when it’s nearer the hiuse🙈
10 years ago. “Mint? How bad could it be? Plant in a pot me arse.”
Fucking hell, it’s unreal…
It’s a cunt of a plant, impossible to get rid of.
I planted a few different varieties into my new herb garden this year but made sure to set them all in pots.
4 slugs in the beer trap this morning. They are still winning though and I may have to offer up the cabbages as a sacrifice to keep the rest of the veg. Anyway it’s a good way to use up the Budweiser that cunts bring to the house and don’t take home with them.
Best thing is to go out with a bucket some soft summer evening. This evening could be good. You’ll pick them off like mushrooms.
Try attract more birds to your garden. Put up a few bird boxes. Feed them during winter. Once they come and they like it, they’ll stay. There’s a pair of Thrushes leaving serious snail shells in my garden the last few years.
Would you ever put down a bit of salt? The slugs explode on contact.
Same here. The thrushes are great for knocking snails about.
