The advanced gardening thread

Beer traps are good but they get messy quick. If you have a raised bed smear a continuous line of Vaseline around the timber frame, preferably on the inside. They won’t cross it and it lasts away.

Salt does a great turn but it gets absorbed quick.

@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy, you’ll be delighted to hear I haven’t touched my lawn in circa 10 (?) days and its come along greatly. So I’ve decided to cut it to the bone on Saturday when I’ve finished the early morning rubbish burning and flytipping

Absolute madness. You’re ruining the bloody thing. Raise the blade (I know the idea is alien to Limerick folk) and just shave off the higher growth. You’ll be doing it again in 4/5 days but you’re hardly on an acre. A month of this and you’ll have Augusta in Ballyragget.

Lads what has caused a random circle on the lawn with mushrooms growing on it?

Faeries.

Any other unrealistic ideas?

Its fairies .
They are common enough.

They grow in two circles on our GAA pitch every year

It’s not random, the mycelium network has been in the soil for years- it just happens to be ‘fruiting’ now.

I like mushrooms so I do

Well you should listen to paul stamets then, so you should.

I possibly didn’t expect as many chilli seedlings to survive as have done and so I’m coming down with chilli plants now. I’ve eight large ones put into big pots today with seven more to follow when I buy more stakes for them. I’ve as many again medium to small ones coming up behind them. Padron, Serrano, ghost, red demon, Numex twilight, Jamaican hot chocolate, scotch bonnet and maybe a few other types. The jalapenos didn’t germinate at all.
