The closer you can get to Bretagne the better and healthier they are.
I found this terracotta bowl being thrown out by a neighbour recently. Absolutely beautiful piece. I plugged and sealed it and now it’s a pond (something I’ve always wanted) in what I probably optimistically call the fernery. I’ll put a few aquatic plants in it and hopefully it will help and attract wildlife. Shaded by one of my prized horticultural possessions, the tree fern, Dicksonia Antartica.
All of the pots here, as with most of the many pots in the garden, have been found on the side of the road by people throwing them out. It still amazes me how much stuff I have in my garden for free. Not shite either, these are really expensive pots . All the pots on the veranda (see box plants above) are all from the side of the road. Keep your eyes open and it’s amazing what you find.
I like the vertical wall idea. I’ve been meaning to do something like this for a few years now.
This is from Inistioge in kk. I just can’t find enough tough old boots in Limerick.
I have 5 nice ceramic pots medium sized with dead plants in them…if I was to start again what could you put into them that would be easy to mind and throw off a bit of colour
Lupins will give good colour and if you can mind them for the winter they should keep coming back.
If you go to any decent garden center they should be able to give you a good steer.
Pelargoniums for the summer, or some Hardy Geraniums.
Anyone recommend an apparatus to burn away weeds and clumps of grass on a brick driveway?
Have one of those long handled wire brushes to clear moss and the light stuff but there is stubborn enough stuff by the edgings which I want to burn off
I go at them with a spade .Any recommendations to make them stay away ? Nothing seems to work
Roundup.
Your old glyphosate friend.
I don’t use it myself, I slave away manually, but it’s what your local corporation or county council use. If it’s a large area then there isn’t a whole pile of choice.
Burners work but they don’t kill the roots. Aldi/Lidl had a handy electric one recently.
I feel I’d need a budget up on my back to do a tidy job with the round up as it is where the lawn meets the curbing blocks and I don’t want to get weed killer on the lawn hence why I would like to just burn them off then go at them with brush
Do you have kerbing to separate the drive and lawn? Could use salt if you do
Potted plants need regular and careful watering.
If you can’t promise to do that then try some hardy succulents.
Like Sedums and Echeveria. I can recommend some hardy-ish ones if you want.
You’re asking specifically about an apparatus to burn them off… can’t help you there… but, if you’re not against chemically burning them off you can’t go wrong with the chloras. Give it a strong dose and walk away, it just kills everything… moss, weeds, seeds… great job.
Is it water based?
Ya. Get it in the co-op. What diary farmers use to purge the tank and the milking machine. 50:50 with water is a strong dose. It’s concentrated chlorine.
One of these yokes is what you want.
The tidy towns committee nearly burnt down a local pub last year using one.
Weed Burner to Burn Off & Kill Weeds On Sale Online in Ireland
I see Treaty has posted it too. Great yokes. Burns right down to the root
