The advanced gardening thread

A Kerry winner at Chelsea with a fern collection.

He has a head gardener? Is that not cheating?

They’d have a team of four or five installing each garden. Perhaps they do make the money back but somehow I doubt it.

Greg was lucky to get a mention. Normally these lads don’t.

I might have posted elsewhere that Monty Don has entered a ‘dog friendly’ garden this year. I must see how he got on. He’s planning it with a gardening company for months. In my opinion dogs and gardens aren’t a great mix.

Monty’s garden wasn’t part of the competition. He barked out….

The Kerry winner is a stand in the Great Pavilion, not a show garden.

I’ve edited accordingly.

If it’s a one off or once a year weed burning event you’d get far more use out of this lad…

I don’t pass 7 days without this through my hands at least once. Seized bolts, lighting the stove, burning rubbish… a dinger.

The amount of unnecessary packaging these days is off the charts. Simple things like a medium sized food shop or an online delivery… it’s insane. I’d accumulate a good bit of it in the shed and let it all go in one quick incineration event of an evening. Great job.

No extra diesel fumes from the bin lorry, no return trip to the dump… the planet is winning.

The Cha no Niwa – Japanese Tea Garden, designed by Kazuyuki Ishihara has won best show garden at Chelsea. This is Ishihara-Sans 17th garden at Chelsea, he’s won 12 Gold Medals , but this is his first show garden on Main avenue. It’s brilliant and by all accounts perfectly executed.
A worthy winner.

I’m still smarting over Sarah Price not winning in 2023 with her garden, an interpretation of a Cedric Morris painting and in the decades I’ve been watching Chelsea, by far the best garden I’ve seen at the show.
Not that I’ve ever actually been to it.

A bit like Gardaix?

Your a man after my own heart

Not so advanced gardening: only one of 32 chilli seeds planted a few weeks ago has germinated. Raging.

Not uncommon. A lot of the packs of chili seeds on the market are duds.

I bought these from a chilli fella abroad in England. Last time round I had great success.

Did you provide night time heat?

The days have been warm but the nights still dropping to under ten might not have helped.

Keep them moist. You’d never know…

I put them into an electric propagator and all.

On a separate note I lost my full tray of Mexican sunflowers. It’ll be my first year without any in the garden for a long long time.

They were doing fine in the covered tray in the greenhouse but looked a bit peaky during the hot weather. So I took the cover off. Coincidently or not, bang over night. All gone. The old damping off.

I’ve started some more stuff but it’s a bit late now. I’ll just have to splash the cash to fill the gaps.
