Yeah - have some of the Pan American stuff. This is early-ish Labradford, from A Stable Reference.
Couldnāt warm to it. Think it might have been the last thing he did before he comitted suicide
This in another classic from them off Prazision, gives me the creeps evry time I hear it. Great video too

And yet another off of Pico, utterly beautiful and another great video. What a band B)
The most radio friendly song I have heard on Kranky Records.
Out Hud - Itās For You
Itās lame but a dedicated motion picture or TV score/soundtrack type thread wouldnāt be a bad idea come to think of it
Superb

The other half of this EP - in two parts. The best EP out there - perfection really.

Interviewer: Wellā¦ Where are you coming from?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: (pause) Wellā¦ I donāt like the way the countryās ran, donāt you know, and, ermā¦ thatās pretty much what i was expressing in my poem. The governmentā¦ the American government - theyāre sneaky, theyāre very deceitful, theyāre liars, theyāre cheats, theyāre rip-offs. I mean, the American government is one systematic government thatā¦that nobody can trust. I donāt trust them myself.
Interviewer: And how long have you been writing for?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Huh?
Interviewer: How long have you been writing for?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Since I was four.
Interviewer: Do you do this sort of thing a lot, like, open-mic kinda questions?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Oh, I love open-mics, I love coming here to do open-mics, absolutely.
Interviewer: What kind of reactions do you usually get?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Usually, people areā¦ are pretty much in agreement with what Iām saying.
Interviewer: We overheard you before talking aboutā¦ you went to court today for a speeding ticket?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Thatās accurate.
Interviewer: right. Do you wanna tell us that story?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes, absolutely, I wouldnāt mind telling you the story. Ermā¦ I went to court today for a speeding ticket, and I told the judge, ermā¦ āLet me tell you something, and you listen and you listen good, Iām only gonna say this one time and one time only, I donāt repeat myself for nobody,ā I said. I saysā¦ āIām here to pay a speeding ticket, not to listen to your lectures and hear you run your mouth for an hour.ā I says āIām here to pay off my speeding ticket ā¦and Iām here to get my fines out of the way and get the fuck to work.ā The judge says āYou canāt talk like that in my courtroom, youāre in contempt of court.ā then I saidā¦ I told the judge, āIf thatās the best you can do, I feel sorry for you.ā I said āWhy donāt you just shut your fucking mouth for once and listen.ā I said āIām not gonna take any shit.ā I said āIām gonna pay my speeding ticket like I said.ā I walked up to the god damn judge and I hand him my 25 dollars and I says āHereās my money, now I am leaving.ā
And I left it at that.
(At this point the interview fades whilst the music grows in intensity)
Then, before I left, I turned around and told the judge āIām here to state who I am and be honest with you.ā I said āIf they thought I was dangerous on the road like youāre trying to accuse me of, wouldnāt they have taken my license when I first got it? Yes they would.ā And the judge says āYeah, you have a point,ā He goes āYou donāt need to get loud,ā I said āDonāt get loud?ā I says āIāve got every right to get loud.ā I says āYou canāt do a god damn thing about it, because Iām expressing myself in your court, and there is nothing you can do about it. You think youāre god because you have a robe and you can put people up the goddamn river for 20 years? Well youāre not.ā
And I left it at that.
Interviewer: Did you walk away?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes I didā¦ I donāt like the judicial system, I donāt like the government system, I donāt like the police, I donāt like anything to do with this countryās government. I just donāt like it, becauseā¦ theyāre sneaky, like I said - theyāre deceitful, theyāre lying, theyāre cheats, they rip people off. Thatās the American government for you. America is a third world country, and people donāt recognise itā¦ and I think that thatās pretty god damn sad, that they donāt recognise their own country as a third world, third rate, third class slum.
Interviewer: Wellā¦ Do you have any weapons?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes, I do. I own a high-powered assault rifle, I own a 12-gauge double barrel shotgun, I own a regular shotgun, I own a regular hunting rifle, I own a 9mm, a 357, a 45 handgun, a 38 special, and, ermā¦ I own an m-16 fully automatic ground assault rifleā¦
Interviewer: Do you think things are gonna get better before they get worse?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: No way. Things are just gonna get worse and keep on getting worse. Like I said, Americaās a third world country as it is andā¦ and weāre just basically in a hopeless situation as it stands.
Interviewer: What do you think this countryās gonna look like in the year 2003?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yāknow, Iāll tell you the truth - nothing against you guys, but I donāt wanna answer that question becauseā¦ I havenāt even got a mind thatās thatā¦that inhumane.
Interviewer: are you ready for whatās coming?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Ready as Iāll ever be.
Interviewer: Most people arenāt.
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Thereās a little sayingā¦ Dates back for generationsā¦
Interviewer: Go onā¦
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Be prepared for anything at any time from anybody, donāt take no shit, always stand your ground. People wanna come up to me and run their mouth - guess what? Iāll throw them through the fucking windowā¦ I wonāt think a thing of it.
Interviewer: Would you mind reciting your poem for us?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Not at all, I donāt see whyā¦ I donāt see why I couldnāt.
Thereās an evil virus thatās threatening mankind
Itās not state of the art, itās a serious state of the mind
The muggers, the backstabbers, the two faced elite
A menace to society, a social disease
To brainwash the mind is a social disorder
The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order
Watching beginnings of social decay
Gloating and sneering at lifeās disarray
Eating away at your own self esteem
Pouncing on every word that you might be saying
To attack someoneās mind is a social disorder
The constitution, the government, martial law order
Superficially smiling a shake of the hand
As soon as your back is turned treason is planned
When every good thingās laid to rest
By the governments hate, by the constitution and their lies
And every time you think youāre safe
And when you go to turn away
You know theyāre sharpening all their knives
All in your mind
All in your head
Try to relate it
All in your mind
All in your head
Try to escape it
Without a conscience they destroy
And thatās a thing that they enjoy
Theyāre a sickness thatās in all of our minds
They want to sink the ship and leave
The way they laugh at you and me
You know it happens all the time
But it only happens in your mind
The rats in the cellar you know who you areā¦
Or do you?
Watching beginnings of social decayā¦
Interviewer: Thank you for your time.
Iāve never heard of Out Hood.

Beautiful
Great call.
Some good stuff here, Iāve never heard of most of these.
I heard a brilliant review of a new album today by, of all bands, Los Lobos (give this a go, thereās a lot more to this band than La Bamba). I thought they were no more and David Hidalgo was permanently touring with Dylan. Anyway, its not exactly alternative music in the normal sense, but the album seems to be good and this is a fucking good song.
