How much state money was sunk into that black hole? billions.
It was obtained fraudulently by the fuckers. Burn the state as you want to stay in a job, see the bigger picture you cunts.
treasonabale offences if we still had such a thing, I wonder are there any provision in the offences against the state act regarding fraud on the state…
If democratically elected members of state are allowed get away with offences regarding fraud on the state why should a few lads working in a bank be treated differently?
that’s the problem no one should be allowed get away with it. We seem to think putting one over on the state is a good thing, it’s a hangover from being a colony. The state are meant to for us now but everyone still tries to screw it as “sure everyone else is doing it”.

I can understand were Julio is coming from. These fuckers in Anglo were doing their best for the company, the didn’t give a shit about the state, the state wasn’t paying their ridiculous wages and enormous bonuses so as far they were concerned they were trying to do the best to try save their asses.
It was up to the regulator, central bank, department of finance and finance minister to look out for the best interests of the state and they failed miserably to do this. I guess this is what happens when you have people in positions that dont have a fucking clue of finance and banking.
In fairness to the Anglo lads their priority was saving the bank (and rightly so), it was up to the Regulator etc. to protect the state.
maybe if they knew how to run a bank in the first place then they wouldn’t have need to be saved…this is why I can’t understand the arrogance of them…its so unfounded…they were just greedy gamblers…
Irish people should never act arrogant because plain and simple we are a nation of savages - whether its from simple binge drinking, gorging on food, staying all day in the sun with no suncream and turning red because we get one hot day to buying houses we can’t afford…they call us the newfoundland of Europe…and rightly so…

In saying that Scumpot, maybe if the state knew how to run a country and apply the rules and regulations the fuckers in the banks wouldn’t have got away with what they did.
Basically what you have here is the government/state having lax rules and regulations that allowed these bankers to do what they did. Its up to the state to have the rules and regulations in place and it is also up to the state to enforce them unfortunately for us the state failed miserably in that responsibility and as with any company if they see an oppertunity to exploit an weakness in the rules to make more money for the company then that is what they will do.
All these tapes highlight to me is how fucking crooked, clueless and fucking useless our fucking politicians and civil fucking servants are.

I wouldn’t stop there…from what i can see anyone who ever had power in this country has abused it in some shape or form…whether it be the people in government, the catholic church, banks, estate agents, some sporting organisations…its every where…even cunts running crèches getting a fortune have to act the cunt !!..
I haven’t been following this story that much but are we meant to be outraged or something about David Drumm singing Deutschland Uber Alles as a joke in a private telephone call? Because that’s what everybody seems to be focussing on.
The first tape with the converstaion between Fitzgerald and Bowe is far more incriminating, surely, as it shows clear intent to deceive the government, in the knowledge that Anglo’s balance sheet was in a far worse state than was officially let on? That’s fraud, surely?
+1
we all played our part in the boom as well,
in fairness to The Drummer this is fanatastic banter
“Anglo Irish Bank bosses were ordered to go down to the Central Bank with “arms swinging” to demand a multi-billion euro taxpayer bailout, latest leaked tapes reveal.
In a telephone conversation with a senior colleague, chief executive David Drumm outlines his brusque strategy for bringing cash into the bank.
“Get into the f***ing simple speak: ‘We need the moolah, you have it, so you’re going to give it to us and when would that be? We’ll start there’,” he tells Director of Treasury John Bowe.”
Oh I agree with all of that but I was just dealing with the Anglo tapes. The fucking country is rotten to the core with people with any sort of power abusing it. I suppose the reason for it as well is that they can get away with it. Laws is this country are only for middle and low income folk, those on high incomes are fucking immune it seems and the cunts currently in power are carrying on this tradition.

Yeah it is fantastic banter alright, pity its the rest of us they are taking for a ride. I bet there are other fucking bankers sitting in their offices reading these transcripts and pissing themselves laughing at how the lads took the state for a ride.

The problem of regulatory capture by the corporate world is hardly unique to Ireland. It happens in every field because the state will never devote the necessary moolah to properly stand up to corporate giants, and there’s usually a revolving door between regulators and those they’re supposed to be regulating - ie they’re often friends and/or the regulators are often former/future employees of the companies they’re supposed to be regulating.
Look at the way the likes of Tesco ride roughshod over planning regulations and Monsanto bully the fuck out of anybody who tries to stand up to them patenting the seeds that provide the world’s food supply. The financial industry is just the most obvious example. Who was the last US Treasury Secretary that hadn’t worked for Goldman Sachs?
I remember reading in Matt Cooper’s book that the Office of Corporate Enforcment in this country has a total staff of six, or something. How can that be in any way effective?
Fuck all really. The fact that we’re back in recession again according to the latest figures should really help the poor people see the funny side of this story.

Count I’m with you, but its not up to them to regulate themselves.
I think they knew things were bad, but had no idea how bad. They were even talking being bought out of nationalisation once things stabilise in one of the tapes. As far as they were concerned they just needed to prop up the bank whiles things calmed down.
We still have treasonable offences I think, Matt Cooper listed out a few things that were treasonable offenses under law and conspiracy to defraud the state was one, which I think you could make a pretty open & shut case on based on the tapes alone.
It may come out in time that the regulator was deeply involved in attempts to prop up the bank.
