The Anti American Football thread

All the lads want it a bit of razzamatazz of a Sunday night. Plenty super slow mos and a bit of jargon

Don’t be ashamed to admit it’s too complicated for you. We know you struggle to grasp the rules of rugby union and have made a fool of yourself on that thread when you questioned the ref over an incident in the Ireland V Scotland game.

We are a more patient bunch on the American football thread and will take time out to field your queries and explain the rules to you.

Has @Fran posted on this thread yet?

Complicated? Is it? I’ve never watched more than a few minutes of it. Seems pretty straightforward to me. Little enough nuance to it. But that suits a lot of lads when all the want on a Sunday night is to cozy up with a few yanks telling them what to think.

Like I said. Live and let live whatever gets a fella through his Sunday night

Exactly. Some cunts like it, some don’t.

Unfortunately @Matty_Hislop that sensible approach is not allowed around here. You have to be for or agin

Unseemly thread. I am happy for all sports to exist, without criticism.

Except for the likes of golf etc which are clearly not sports.

Thats a clamping

WTF??

It’s only sport

Snooker is quite obviously the most cerebral sport. It’s chess on baize. But chess doesn’t also require the execution of incredibly high skill levels under the most intense pressure.

Association football is, by a considerable distance, the most cerebral field/team sport.

I find it quite amusing that something that involves extensive amounts of full force head to head contact can be described as “cerebral”. But that’s Yanks for you. It’s MTV’s “Jackass” on grass, or, more commonly, artificial grass.

Cerebrally damaging would be more apt

Permeates through English and west Brit/Irish football if you read the thoughtful analysis correctly, not an issue in non vile societies.

Any interest in fleshing that out?

Anti intellectualism permeates British society and culture from top to bottom.

Exactly, and by colonial extension the pale (sindo, TV3, FM104 call in shows for some examples) I think I hit a nerve making that point about a few posters motherland. Kick em off the pitch innit.

I am an American so I am allowed to be an American football fan.

There are an awful lot of muldoons in Ireland though who, with the proliferation of broadband and satellite television, have discovered Fantasy NFL and NFL respectively. It’s continued increase in popularity only damages the GGA which is a good thing. Nobody cares for the Sunday night GGA league highlights on RTÉ anymore. The pretend IRA anti rugby football crowd with new found fibre optic broadband are destroying the GGA.

Do the NFL and GAA worlds really overlap tho? You have both All Ireland’s on in early September and I doubt the lads you are slagging off give up the Sunday game on those nights… If anything the GAA and NFL are perfectly timed one after the other.

Check the attendances and ratings bro. Irish eyeballs on the NFL go up, the GGA goes down.
