The Anti Rugby Football Thread Pt 2

Muted celebrations yesterday after securing the Centenary Quaich. It’s the Grand Slam and a World Cup semi-final appearance that we have our sights set on this year.

Imagine the anticipation if our great country appeared in a World Cup final. It would be unbelievable. Unfortunately we’ll have to beat either France or New Zealand just to go beyond a quarter this time.

Donal lenihan heaped praise on Johnny Sexton for kicking the ball out of play in the 10 metre ‘tram lines’…

It is actually horrendous luck in fairness. So to avoid being classed as complete failures and everyone laughing at them again for four years they have to beat the perennial best team in the world or the hosts who everyone agrees are currently very strong

Leinster and ulster both on paddy’s day

Not sure what the official reasoning is for having it on a school day but I’d guess unofficially it’s to keep a better lid on the students behaviour who are going to the match supporting

Farce having it on tomorrow clashing with Cheltenham etc…

What is rugby?

It’s a contact sport that originated in England in the 19th century. It involves two teams of fifteen players who try to carry, pass, and kick an oval-shaped ball across the opponent’s goal line to score points. The game is known for its physicality and requires strength, speed, and skill.

Tell me about the skills required in rugby

Rugby requires a range of skills, including:

  1. Running: Players need to be able to run at speed with the ball, evade defenders, and break tackles.

  2. Passing: Accurate and well-timed passing is essential to move the ball quickly and effectively.

  3. Kicking: Kicking skills are important for both attacking and defensive purposes, including punting, placekicking, and drop kicking.

  4. Tackling: Players must be able to make effective tackles to stop their opponents from advancing with the ball.

  5. Scrummaging: Scrummaging is a key aspect of rugby and requires a combination of strength, technique, and coordination.

  6. Lineouts: Lineouts are another important set piece in rugby, requiring good jumping and throwing skills.

  7. Rucking and mauling: These are physical, close-contact aspects of the game that require strength and technique to win the ball and gain ground.
