As I’ve said before, for some of the chaps here, their relationship with rugby is a bit like when you’re 11 and getting teased by your primary school classmates about liking a girl in the class, and you get terribly embarrassed and pretend to hate her, even though in reality you’re fascinated by her and can’t take your eyes off her.

Dublin hurler Ryan O’Dwyer is currently in hospital in London after being the victim of an assault.

According to reports, the 29-year-old Tipperary native was on his way to the Rugby World Cup final when he was punched outside a London pub.

It is understood that he is conscious but may have suffered a broken jaw or eye socket.

He is currently awaiting results of a scan to determine the extent of his injuries.

The Kilmacud Crokes clubman has been an ever present on the Dublin senior squad since 2011.
