The Battle for Liam 09

and Iā€™ve heard yeā€™ve knitted Eoin Kelly a special support girdle out of 2ply-Babs Keating quips

this is my belief, you cant ignore current form when current form is absolutely huge scores against everyone they play.

they will def take one big scalp and tipp will be vulnerable with injuries and at +3 ill be backing Cork

Absolutely spot on.

Any idea of the handicap on this one. Iā€™d say Galway to win by 30 points+

No. Galway should win by around that. They might just mess about when the have the game wrapped up after ten minutes. Theyā€™ll prob be up about 2-5 to 0-1 after 10 mins.

We could do with another storm like we got against Offaly a few years ago. Keeps the score down.

Dont agree. As a Tipp man Im a bit worried bout Sunday, Cork have serious motivation for this game and as someone said earlier Tipps forwards can blow hot and cold. Hoping for a cracking game tho.

Is this the real line-up or are you just blowing smoke out your hole? Aisake? I thought he wasnā€™t meant to be much cop.

Iā€™d take any 2 of Zane Tommy or James fit to be honest over a storm.

John A to have another crack off big Joe I suppose, done alright last time out Gio?

Cant believe i didnt see this thread before today, good stuff in here.If this is the Cork team id be concerned for thier chances, its very lobsided in that theyre taking huge risks with an inexperienced full back line whilst its the same old faces up front apart from Aisake, surely Cork cant be hurling Timmy and Niall Mac on the same team on Sunday are they?,no team could afford such a luxury,Keiran Murphy doesnt impress me either.About Eoin Kelly Tipperary, someone said earler in the thread that Tipp would have won the league final if he was on the field,my own club hurled a challenge against Mullinahone that same day and he was playing, hes not moving well at all and looked heavy,e looked way off the pace and thats only around a month ago,id be surprised if he starts on Sunday.

2 Months ago i would have been totally in agreement with you LInk about all you say there, but things have taken a turn in recent weeks. I must say now i havenā€™t seen Timmy Mac play this year, but i heard he is in the form of his life, heā€™s after dropping a bit of weight and is blowing people away. I have seen Niall Mac and he was the best player on show in the County Championship games i saw, only a couple now mind you. Heā€™s in his 2003-2004 form. Of course Sunday is a different ball game and it remains to be seen if they are up to that level, but iā€™m not worried about them really.
Iā€™m worried about Cusack, Cadogan, Gardiner, Sean Og and Kieran Murphy. Cusack is a stubborn prick and i donā€™t think heā€™s very good at changing the mindset mid-game. I believe also there is 3 other keepers in Cork as good as him now. Cadogan iā€™m just worried about because its his first start at full back in championship. He is a fantastic athlete and hurler, but iā€™d stick with him now, the other full backs around are all over the place, Eoin Dillion is playing midfield for the Intermediates on Sunday and ChrisMurphy is out long term. Gardiner isnā€™t that fit by all accounts and has been playing poorly, iā€™d worry about him against a quick half forward. Sean Og the same, he just hasnā€™t been playing matches, even though heā€™s supposed to be in rare old shape. Kieran Murphy is simply too small and not knacky enough for me. Joe Deane was tiny, but had great awareness, Fraggie doesnā€™t have that.
I wouldnā€™t worry about Aisake at all lads. He could be just as big as Setanta yet. He is the biggest Oā€™ Halphin, heā€™s still not too bulky though, and from what i remember of him underage he was the most skillful. He may not do much sunday, but iā€™d leave him there. Iā€™d actually have played him in the corner and started Fintan Oā€™ Leary. Again i only saw him once this year, but he has improved out of all proportaion.

If the half backline do reasonable and Cadogan doesnā€™t have a nightmare iā€™d give us a very good fighting chance. Cork have nothing to loose and will be full of fire, but i would still have Tipp as favourites.

have to say i have a sneaky feeling the cork menace will sneak this oneā€¦this tipp team is over rated people are getting carried away about what the did in the league final most people seem to forget they lost that gameā€¦i expect the cork half back line to clean out tipp half forwards curran to hit an amount of ball this tipp team just doesnt convince meā€¦tipp will play above and beyond themselves at stages in this game but they have periods in games where they fall asleep and allow teams to make hayā€¦happened in all their games last yearā€¦if clare had any forwards they should have caught them in munster final and waterford did catch them in the semiā€¦so all in all im saying cork to win but the winners of munster to hopefully come from limerick/waterford side of the drawā€¦ actually sad to see theres probably no one to put this average cork boys back in their box and teach them a lesson in " mighty munster championship"ā€¦hopefully they will meet kilkenny and get taught the lessons they deserveā€¦

MBB, are Keenan and Young definitely out of the game v Galway?

If so, iā€™d expect Galway to beat the spread as those two boys are massive for Laois.

Hereā€™s what our battle for Sam is up against:
Saw this elsewhere

Semple Stadium. Limerickā€™s Graveyard.

-Since Limerick beat Waterford in Semple Stadium in 1997, they have failed to win on their last 12 championship visits to Thurles.

-Their record in that time reads P12, W0, D2, L10.

-The 2 draws include one installment of the 2007 Limerick/Tipp ā€œtrilogyā€ and the epic 2003 drawn semi final with Waterford that sadly contained no tv cameraā€™s.

-Since 1995 Limerick have won only once at Semple Stadium. Defeats in that time include the 1995 final and Davy Fitzā€™s penalty, the 2003 qualifier defeat in an awful performance against Offaly, collapsing after a fine start against Tipp in 2006, Dan Shanahanā€™s hat trick in 2007, and last years error stricken performance against Clare.

-From a clubā€™s perspective, Patrickswell and Adare have both suffered defeat at Semple Stadium in 2003 and 2008 respectively.

-It has been 8 years since Limerick last won their opening championship match, back in 2001 they defeated Cork (1-16 to 1-15) in Pirc U Chaoimh. Not since 1957-1964 have Limerick failed to win their opening championship match for 8 consequetive years.

-Waterford have enjoyed their visits to Semple Stadium in recent years. They have won on their last 3 visits, and in recent years they have claimed the 2004 and 2007 Munster Championships in Thurles. In 2004, they defeated Clare by 19 points and participated in an all time classic with Cork.

Sam has left the building. Liam has entered the building. :pint:

Keenan has a broken leg and James ripped his hamstring off the bone a couple of weeks ago. Both are out. Tommy Fitz is as bad of a loss.

Handicap is 19.
I wouldnā€™t bet on it.

Laois will surely get hammered but whether Galway put the boot down for the whole game makes this bet a ricky one.

Theyā€™ll beat the handicap, Iā€™d put my house on it. Its nothing against Laois, but they just wont have the forwards to take the pressure off their backline.

Its up to Galway whether they want to ransack O Moore Park, they have in the past.

I think theyā€™ll beat it.

The Eoin Kelly of 2007-2008 was not the same playe as Eoin Kelly 2001-2006ā€¦Whether it is burnout or injuries to me he seems to have just lost a yard of pace, his current injury problems wonā€™t be helping him eitherā€¦Granted he scored a fine goal against Cork and think he got 4 points from play against clare but it was a poor year by his standardsā€¦I am going to say this and I expect that a few might disagree with me but IMHO Eoin Kelly is gone past his peak and wonā€™t be half the menace he was in years before, in saying that he will still be a handful and will get his scores but if his return is what Tipp are resting their hopes in September on I would be concerned for themā€¦

In saying that I am a big fan of his and when we look back he will be regarded as one of teh finest players of this decadeā€¦
