Discredited Krugman having to resort to this to cover up the fact that he got Ireland so spectacularly wrong 
Weâve rubbed a lot of peoples faces in it. They all thought we were toast. But here we are, the greatest economy in living history.
They donât like it up 'em.
You can see all of them pile in under Krugmanâs tweet. Professional crank Gene Kerrigan leads the list. Then we have Constantin Gurdgiev (remember him lolz) coming in. Unemployment falling, deficit closing and below 3% of GDP, Debt to GDP falling, tax take up - these lads have been comprehensively destroyed and have taken to hiding on Twitter with one another.

Why are the government getting such flak over this figure? Itâs not like they could do anything about it. They are the facts, however distorted they may be. Maybe the CSO need to come up with some better metrics.
Because some cranks and lads who have been proven dead wrong about the Irish economy have seen an opportunity to have a cut. GDP is what it is ffs.

Irelandâs GDP is inflated by a small number of very large multinationals who have been and are moving their IP to Ireland so they can route as much of their international revenue through Ireland to avoid paying taxes in higher tax jurisdictions. There has been a lot of noise on this side of the Atlantic about closing such tax avoidance strategies and making inversions more difficult, so corporations are getting ahead of this as post November who knows what will happen. Corporations are generally about 10 steps ahead of politicians in such matters, and have far better accounting, taxation and legal resources than most countries.
As they pay little or in many cases no tax in Ireland there is very little benefit to the Irish economy through such activity.
The right wingers have been routed.
EU has moved before US has to try and link tax to substance. Ireland will benefit as substance is here and corporations may well just close sales offices elsewhere.
US could offer a tax amnesty to get money back to US.
