The Celtic Phoenix - A thread to list the economic miracles of Michael Noonan & Fine Gael

yes, thats y/e figure so apples and oranges for now.

Its huge anyways. this 13 bn is drop in the ocean.

So there will be a payment.

Thanks.

So why are we still happy to be borrowing away now that things are going well?

Does a struggling salesman start turning up on a bicycle? No, he turns up in a newer car - perception, yeah? They got to trust me …

A deficit that was exacerbated by geniuses like Noonan reducing MNC’s rate of tax while increasing the tax burden on low income earners through stealth taxes. This would be an example of the poor subsidising the rich.

Do you buy goods made in the third world, in China?
How do you feel about their low paid labour subsidising you, a richer man.

Lolz, the “poor” get a lovely deal in Ireland

When compared with a Sri Lankan sweat shop worker I am for more fortunate. I am not playing the “poor me”. However to compare (me+Sri Lankan) versus (apple+me) is comparing apples and oranges. My ire is not directred towards Apple as they do what they do, my ire is with the Irish govt who facilitate this transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich.

20% relates to the banking
the rest is from our crazy low tax regime meaning we dont take in enough money

I was thinking of the state of our hospitals. Cuts to services for the sick and elderly. Cuts to services for kids with disabilities. You know, services that a country like Ireland should be providing to it’s people rather than giving tax write offs to MNC’s.

Social welfare and public sector spending rose to a pisstake level during the boom. Capital expenditure rose, but to bridge the gap in Ireland’s infrastructural deficit built up from years of neglect from independence. The “tough choices” on “austerity” have been directed at capital expenditure again, ensuring Ireland’s infrastructure goes backwards. But as long as some of the politicians’ welfare clients and semi/public sector pensions are protected it’s all good- except that they’re two sectors you’ll here the loudest whinge from.

What tax writeoffs?

What have Orange got to do with it?
They don’t have operations here?

Paddy will pay his way!

This money won’t be Ireland’s, but the EUs. This is a blatant attack on our corporate tax system by the EU… They want to punish Ireland and corporations here, make no two ways about it. We bent over once already and saddled the country with dept for these Eurocats, they can fuck right off.

Time to join the Brits on the outside of this jokeshop.

It’s been on the news all morning, EU ordering Apple to pay 13bn in taxes to the Irish Govt. 13 bn which the Irish govt were happy to write off and will appeal the decision.
