The Celtic Phoenix - A thread to list the economic miracles of Michael Noonan & Fine Gael

The old statistics are coming out now. Apple are charged 0.005% tax, we were told it was 12.5%. Indiginous SMEā€™S are not making profits because of upward only rents and penal rates. Any that are fortunate enough to make a profit are paying 12.5%.

Hereā€™s a statistic for you 0.05/12.5 = 250. I think the rate is actually 0.005% but Iā€™m going for the more believable 0.05%.

Attack by EU Commission on our tax system which is outside their competence.

I asked you a question bro but Iā€™ll have to give you a link to it as you are screaming

Who signed those lease agreements pal? Are you even aware of the Supreme Court decision on the matter?

Well said. If Apple paid the money, the EU would take that money from Ireland and redistribute across Europe.

apple have launched one back at the EU

Getting back on topic, how is the 13bn owed by Apple in taxes all due to US taxpayers? If this is in fact the case how come the EU are suggesting the Irish govt collect and allocate it to other EU countries? Are you saying you know more than the EU?

ā€œOur business has grown over the years, we have become the largest taxpayer in Ireland."

Yeah thatā€™s because of all the fucking money yeā€™re making mate. It wasnā€™t a voluntary effort.

So you donā€™t like that youā€™ve been shown up here on upward only rent reviews which youā€™ve been whinging about incessantly?

Itā€™s quite simple, fuck all of that money was earned in Ireland. Itā€™s a tax shield against higher US Corp Tax. Ireland is far from the only country who engages in this. Apple is a US corporate with over 200 billion held offshore to shield them from tax. The US Treasury, the Irish Revenue and other countries are not happy with this ruling actually.

The first missile fired in the EU - USA tax war

We are a bit player in this.

I wonder if itā€™s the real reason TTIP is going nowhere.

And we know whose side we are on

If we are going to rely on external investment for jobs and industry we have to dance to their tune. The Irish people could grow a backbone and become self sustainable by investing in our agriculture/fishing/food/tourism and pumping our colleges out around the world as literary and music centres of excellence rather than priming students for the latest industrial fad to invest in Ireland.

Fuck. The. World.

Artā€™s degrees for everyone

Courts make their rulings based on legislation. Govt legislate. They could have tackled upward only rents by introducing legislation.

Your point about mncs contributing 80% of corp tax is a misleading statistic. They earn more so theyā€™re going to pay more. Its like saying a millionaire pays more tax than a minimum wage worker. Now if you also said that the millionaires tax rate was 0.05% while the minimum wage worker pays 12.5% then most numerically literate people would say thatā€™s unfair.

Am I right in thinking that a bad case scenario is going to happen in any case?
We get the money, the other EU govts come for their share and whatever is left pays down a relatively nominal sum of the overall debt as per EU rules. Apple are miffed in any case, do a deal with the US govt and relocate home.
We win the case, even worse? We get no money but have pulled the tail of the EU and they come after us more than ever.

This bit wonā€™t happen anyway.

Why?

Same as that : bit like having to chose if you want Kk or Tipp to win Sunday .

American corporate tax is 35%. Yet funny enough the US treasury are bemoaning the EU ruling . There is more to come here . This one will run and run.

Why would they be miffed with us? We let them away with murder. The US are not going to cut any special deal with Apple. What about all the other billion dollar companies here? Google, IBM, Microsoft, Allergan, Dell, etc. Cut a deal with them too?
