The Citizens of Cavan and Fermanagh Thread, including Quinns

Was the programme partly delayed due to worries of Kevin Lunney and others about risks of violence.

An alternative view is that they’re not that fussed about a documentary which would seem to show that they were deeply involved in the extremely ropey decisions and actions which got the Quinn group into insolvency in the first place and that they also played a large role in the effort to move assets out of the reach of the state.

It’s great stuff.

A Quinn monalogue on how great and successful he is…

The interviewer pointing out a reckless and illegal act…

“Aye that was a mistake… shouldn’t have done that…”

Response by authorities to reckless and illegal act…

“Those there bankers in Dublin are out to get me. Only I can run the business”

A few weeks pass and another reckless and illegal act…

I’d imagine it was something to do with the star of part 3 Dublin Jimmy going to his eternal reward in the mean time possibly?

You could make a pretty good darn movie out of the whole saga.
It has a bit of everything and you know we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. Very well made series so far. Quinn seemed to fall victim to his own hubris and surrounded himself with Yes men. He did say, like any family, they had their arguments and spats. So it seems even more inconceivable then that he would summon them up to his mansion to sign documents pertaining to transfer of assets and cash to fund margin calls and they not questioning the wisdom of this. I would like to know did he have any protective stop orders in place or stop loss levels in relation to the CFD’s. Also correspondence between the brokerage firm and Quinn himself. Did he ram these investments through oblivious to the flashing warning signs or did anyone tap him on the shoulder figuratively speaking and tell him to cut his losses. Even some of the high rollers in Vegas would get a tap on the shoulder every now and again. There is even a vetting process for some of these high roller funds. I’d say Quinn is still worth a few hundred million. Enough of it buried in Eastern Europe and Russia. Not coming up with the funds to meet the reserve ratio to ensure the survival and ownership of the Quinn Insurance group which needed a couple of hundred million made me think he knew he would lose control over it and wasn’t willing to play his last card and instead save it to ensure his family would be safeguarded in future and possibly have some seed money to start again. Maybe the Quinnbet is a means to wash some of it. Who knows.

Quinn saying the kids and the wife invested heavily in Anglo shares and how it was nothing at all to do with him is akin to chemical Ali during the Iraq war !

Have stayed away from this thread and the show that RTE are showing these last couple of nights. Am I the only one who thinks that Quinn et al are total gangsters and had the shit bate out of the director of Quinn there the other year?

100% is. The website is so fucking terrible the only possible explanation is they don’t actually need anyone to use it.

Pretty sure everyone here thinks that

Quinn comes across as a greedy cunt. He had a good thing going with cement, insurance, glass, radiators etc. that had set himself and future generations up for life. He hedged all that on Anglo because greed got the better of him. The simpleton farmer never left him

Just a cursory glance at their revenues and profits will tell you that they are growing fairly exponentially. Not uncommon for a start up to see a near doubling of revenues year on year. Colm Keena of Irish Times seems to be watching this space so to speak. They probably have a high number of “losing accounts”. There will be a rush to get as much money washed before affordability checks, wage slips are sought and increased regulation of the industry kicks in. Maybe sponsorship of smaller fish in SPL like Hibernian, Dundee United and involvement with Bournemouth is another vehicle. If murderous regimes like Saudis can do it why cant Sean Quinn who with all his skeletons would be more palatable than the aforementioned.

That’s what i often wondered about all those casinos that sprung up in provincial towns during the boom. Was there any controls on clients? I frequented them a fair bit and from what I remember there was a very rudimentary membership process and no tracking of wins and losses.

Could I open a casino in the morning and then just declare some farmer came in the previous night and lost 10k playing blackjack?

They’ve basically done no advertising. I find it very suss

I would say every casino is a money laundering front.

A betting company? Suss? Gerrawayourrofit.

Any win over 2k in the bookies is well tracked. You’ve to produce documents.

There seems to be have been a proliferation of “Turkish Barber” shops in Waterford City over the past year or 2; and I often wondered are some of them for the same purpose. Largely a cash business with no receipts issued to customers so presumably it would easy enough to legitimise money through them.

The winner has to produce documents or the bookie does?

Huge sympathy toward him at the outset but it has cooled noticeably in the intervening years. There’s plenty of jobs still there and his bollocksology is now seen by the majority as a hinderance. Time moves on and all that.
The lads above have nailed it nicely, he’s licking his wounds and the next generation wouldn’t have any of his vision or drive.

The winner

You have to produce documents for the bookie.

Anyway twould be easy have 10 x 1500 winners a day if that was an issue
