The Cost of Living 📈

So…… perhaps you shouldn’t be commenting on that issue.

People in the middle get 80% off one off retrofitting jobs

Everybody is getting 200 euros back

There is public transport outside Dublin

Farmers are being screwed by the supermarkets and the customers, how are bags of carrots so cheap these days?

Correct me if I’m wrong but don’t tell me not to bring up a point that was told to me by someone I the know and is really struggling atm.

I know that explanation is being used but in his interview with RTE Radio with Dobson he made a fuck of that line.
He was cornered on another issue in which he replied we’ve been aware of issues since last November.

If this administrative issue could be painted in a vote harnessing degree the decision would be different.

The Greens are letting themselves be the fall guys again unfortunately

Your work colleague is part time farming?

People want the cost of living reduced that is mainly driven by fuel prices. Asking them to do upgrades they couldn’t afford previously, now with less money is not the answer. Particularly if you have to wait months if not years.

Agreed on the carrots makes no sense except supermarkets are gouging suppliers and still making hefty profits

Yes, but how quick can the public sector set up a scheme that reviews income and pays out on the basis of that. A blanket payment is a lot quicker

Ryan has done a lot this week to address the cost of living crisis yet anything he does people will criticise. People up in arms that public transport fares will be cut for example

Yeah several mate.

Stop ffs

They increased the grant level for upgrades. It’s more affordable now.

Reducing the costs on things that will lead to a global mass extinction or provide grants that will reduce costs and reduce our emissions

Is this really an argument?

As someone who availed of a Grant 5 years ago I can say it has been a revelation for our family.

Improved living standard, one monthly bill, we added value to our property and made it more efficient.

In winter, spring or summer we have a consistent living temperature.

Okay, our electricity bill is higher at the moment but in a couple of months it will decline as the usage will drop.

People may whinge about the cost of upgrades but once they get past the whinge and see the Grant they’ll use it.

Great post

But did you avail of the grant as a part of a standalone job or was it part of a wider renovation project?

Stand-alone

Walls pumped, attic insulation to higher standard, new heat pump, front, rear & patio doors.

We couldn’t keep the place heated with oil system.

To get real benefits we need to look at upgrading current windows & new rads would also help.

Whether it’s -3 or 5° outside the temp in the house is the same Year round.

Yearly service of heat pump is considerably cheaper than oil burner servicing too.

A kindly word here Har….Get your heating system drained out. A plumber will complete the process in an hour. Attach a long length of hosepipe to the draining radiator and pump it into a shore or gully.
The amount of black sludgy shite that comes out will amaze you and the performance of the de-sludged radiators will improve immensely when you refill the system.
You, being a handy lad, could accomplish this yourself in jig time.

How much would that cost boxty?

Nothing if you do it yourself. Every system is different - you just need to know how to drain and refill.
A friendly plumber or good all round handy lad might charge you €50 but you’ll feel the improvement in the radiators within the hour. When you see the black sludgy goo draining out you’ll know you’re winning.
Do it every 2/3 years. Watch how it’s done and you’ll know for the next time
