Our lad started crèche last week and as a result his sleep is a bit off.

When my wife was putting him to bed last night he started to bawl after a while and was inconsolable. I was summoned to brring a bottle, which I did and that settled him. I remained in his room with my wife as she put him back down and despite a few shouts he settled back.

As the two of us sat in his box room easing him back to sleep I remarked to my wife how different our lives were now, 8pm on a Saturday evening the two of us in silence with our little lad in a tiny room coaxing him to sleep. And it felt pretty damn good!

That’s a lovely picturesque scene pal. I’m not ashamed to say i welled up reading it.

The mrs is having awful trouble with feeding the new arrival - her latch was off at the start and it wrecked her nipples. Open cut on one and soreness on the other - but you have to keep feeding through it to keep supply. She’s walking around red eyed with her tits hanging out all day. I usually change the nappy before feed and with her in so much pain I’m not getting any benefit of the boob where i should be able to slip back to sleep like on previous kids

The middle guy used to love a bottle and cuddle from mom to get him off to sleep … Now mama is busy and he’s giving me the ‘who the fuck is this guy’ treatment. Stories, multiple bottles, headlocks, promises of treats, blood, tears and prayers… Is the nightly routine.

We have him in with the eldest for a while as company. Two nights ago there was an unmerciful row because he wanted the night light off and she wanted it on. Last night at 3am they reversed roles and he wanted it on and she was bawling for it to go off. Both have been sick the last few days which adds to it… The eldest lady screams out at night whenever she’s sick whatever the fuck that’s about… Like a banshee being rode by a horse. So I’ve that going on in one room, the red raw baps in my room and with the kids starting school and preschool they’ve suddenly taken to waking up at 6.30 where they used to be great for sleeping in till nearly 8.

The Walton’s it ain’t.

Serenity now, serenity now

Sounds like your stag pal.

He didn’t lick it off the ground anyway

Cherish it. In the blink of an eye, the years fly. My two are up in the bed now and I’ll be trying to coax them out of the bed before their grandparents arrive for dinner at 2pm

Is she using the electric pumps to express milk?

I used to sneak up behind behind mrs barnes and make mooing noises when she was expressing. She was rarely impressed. Women can be funny about that sort of thing.

She was to give her cut a break… I’d be stabbed if i started mooing… I’ll hold off on that a week or two

Did you get a herd number?

The stealth bombers passed on their cold from preschool / school to the 3 week old… Poor little thing not sleeping at night… The child isn’t getting much sleep either. The snot sucker will be out tonight.

Conditioning hair is something I’ve never had to do or something I never thought I would have to do but the 5 year old has such a head of hair it is a necessary addition to the bathtime routine. An awful pain in the arse
