Rascal started school in September and the daily drop off is similar to the start of a grand prix. They have 4 off road lanes at the front of the school. All road etiquette is scorned upon as parents seek to get out as the 4 lanes quickly merge into one at the gate.
Being a courteous person I generally let people away to fight and calmly exit when it has simmered down. It’s not a particularly busy road and I’m never in any rush as it’s only work I’m going back to. One day last week a very cheeky mother tore up the inside lane and undertook a few. I saw it happening so went to cut her off but it was obvious she was willing to cause a collision and knowing she had a slightly less valuable car she called my bluff and I folded. The seethe festered having been publicly humiliated in such a fashion. Being bullied by a woman in the school yard was not a good example to set for Rascal.
Yesterday at pick up time the stars aligned perfectly as I happened to be in the moving lane. I saw my nemesis run to the drivers seat, obviously in a rush but parked on the inside lane. She tried to edge out but I had momentum and she was forced to stop. I proceeded to let every other driver out ahead of me in the other two lanes. She was behind me on the main road too as she obviously bullied her way out behind me. I even stopped to let pedestrians walk across. I’m still chuckling away here to myself. In a life of many humiliations these small petty victories are to be enjoyed.
