The Death of Gaelic (fist) Football

I used to suspect that you were a pompous idiot. Thanks for confirming it.

I note you haven’t debated the point.

Gorgeous.

It seems obvious that county all Irelands and club all Irelands are competitions which test club and county respectively. County titles say as much about the size of the county setup

Club All-Irelands are competitions to discover which is the best club in Ireland at the relevant grade.

They tell us nothing about which county has the best general standard of club football, for example Crossmaglen winning six All-Irelands in 16 years didn’t tell us that Armagh club football was the best in Ireland during that period.

However there is a representative competition which assembles the best players in club football in each county into teams. I guess you could describe it as a club football All-Stars competition.

In this competition, these teams compete to decide which is the best representative team of club footballers in the country. This competition is called the All-Ireland senior football championship.

Crossmaglen is one example. Plenty of County players aren’t committed to clubs and/or club competitions are suspended. In some cases clubs and club competitions are so weak that it scarcely matters- see tyrone for example.

I see no reason to reply substantively to somebody who has been comprehensively defeated in their argument.

Would be a huge boost at club level in increasing competitiveness and ability to field Id say

I see

Already the case in Laois, lower 2 leagues and championships at adult level are 13 aside unless both teams agree to 15. Great help.

Big issue in football and hurling has always been the lack of a proper tackle.

Hurling has become effectively make up your own rules as we near the end of each championship and the steps rule is ignored if somebody being dragged out of. Tackle rule less of an issue than football as generally ball can be moved quicker and longer.

Football suffers as teams adopt basketball style tactics on a much larger playing area. You cannot tackle effectively so teams sit back to try and block off space.

Not sure what solution is as tackle won’t be changed. Maybe change to 13 a side so teams cannot block off space and force teams to keep a minimum number of players in each half

Great idea. All underage rugby comps have a set of rules around fielding numbers. If both teams cant field 15 then you can pkay 15 vs 14 but if a team doesnt have 14 it goes back to 13 a side or 12 a side to ensure game goes ahead.

At lower levels of adult game unlimited rolling subs has been v succesful in keeping fellas playing. Especially older fatter front rows

The rolling subs are a gift for us auld fellas
