I was talking about mine and Kevs time. And reasons for not playing are very different and much more harmful nowadays. Your gang were sweeping chimneys and rolling churns 8 miles to the local creamery ye didnt need sport
soccer is no threat to gaa.
i see it a lot myself when young lads get tempted by the soccer but there is always one common demonitor with these young fellas. they are all soft shits who wouldnt work to warm themselves and are happy to live week to week tipping around smoking buts of fags and scratching their arses while togging out in ditches.
in a way youd be grateful for the soccer that they take these useless cunts off out of the way.
The onset of hamstrings came about as a result of lads not thinning turnips or pulling wildoats anymore. And thats not an insult, thats just a fact of life.
You are clutching at straws. You are gone completely away from what I originally said anyway.
As long as I remember Galway Senior Hurlers have been bigger than everyone else.
They are particularly big now but the reasons for that could be many.
Their Minor teams were always pretty skillful but weâre never short on size either. But the switch over from there was always an issue anyway. What exactly that was I do not know. Maybe there is a belief in lads excelling in County Championship before good enough to play county? I do not know. Galway people may not even know. People are not always terribly aware of their environment all the time.
Point is players come thru different subcultures in hurling. Itâs part if what makes it interesting.
What makes KK so good over the years, and a small county may have forced this, is they have all sorts of hurlers. Big, small, crafty, speedsters, target me . Whatever.
East Galway always gave up a certain kind of deconstructed male who is tough as fuck and loves hurling because there is fuck all else there to love. Cryptic, contrarian cunts too.
Of course teams come through different sub cultures. Youâve got away from your original point that galway are just big lads who can hurl, theres that, but theres also plenty of stickmen. Thats the way its always been.
Jeffery lynskey the minor manager the last few years has said he picks lads now that he thinks will be more physically suited to progress onto the modern senior game. Likewise Cunningham picked lads who could physically stand up to dublin and Kilkenny. But galway has plenty of wristy hurlers, always had. Theres a munster blinkers that thinks we donât though, canât blame you for being blinded by that i suppose.
A fuck load of posts about nothing. And you are nearly getting there. Kev didnt say they didnt have stickmen. He clearly said ânot in the Tipp traditionâ. It was a clear and obvious comparison of how the Tipp players are more renowned for that type of flashy play, whereas Galway arent.
When you asked what other county have better stickmen, the first and most obvious answer is Tipperary. At the moment, I doubt youâd find any other team other than Tipp and Galway with as skillful a bunch of players, the main difference right now is that Galway have an added physicality to their approach which is beneficial to them.
