Bill was a master. I’d say he had great fun.
Souness filled in on the panel on a number of occasions, especially when Liam Brady was involved in the Irish set up with Giovanni Trapattoni, and believed that O’Herlihy got the best out of him as a pundit.
“He was great to work with because I think he got the best out of people,” he told Off The Ball on Newstalk.
"He asked the difficult questions but he asked them in a way… he’d put you on the spot but in a nice way.
"His questions were deliberate and to the point and he asked them with a bit of mischief.
"He was a class act.
"He’d charmingly put you on the spot. He wouldn’t give you much wriggle room.
"Very rarely could you catch him out because he’d have him homework done.

Souness revealed how O’Herlihy would put him at ease from the moment they were in each other’s company/
“Before you go on air you could be talking about anything and you couldn’t help but like the man. He’d be talking about his family, he’d be talking about politics, people’s he’s worked with… he had a charming way about him. I was very comfortable in his company,” he added.
“He knew what questions to ask and how to ask them.”
