The Eamon Dunphy Thread

Think Chelsea qualified for the Champions League ahead of Liverpool on the final day with a 63ish point tally so the table was more condensed back then. It was a real shame for that talented West Ham side to go down. Probably the best team to be relegated in the premier league era?

Yes that was a sliding doors moment for the EPL. Abramovich was on course to buy Spurs or Arsenal but opted for Chelsea

Inter?

Watching him on the Euro 2020 Show. Said Sancho was very talented, up there with best of English attacking talent. When asked later if a move to Utd would be good for all concerned, said he wasn’t sure as he hadn’t seen enough of him :sweat_smile: but his pal Didi assures him he’s top drawer. A gas cunt. Other 3 on panel in awe of him too

I’m too young to remember Brady in his pomp but in the summer of 2009 I was lucky enough to be invited as a special guest of John Delaney, to an Irish training session in Cooke Park, Tipperary. I think they were playing South Africa or Australia in Thomand Park a few days later.

Anyway at the end of the session they played an 11 v 11 full size game. Both sides played 4-4-2 and Chippy filled in on the left side of midfield for the B team.

He barely moved throughout but was still absolutely class whipping in crosses between Given in goal and Dunne and St Ledger in defence. Unfortunately the ponderous Caleb Folan and Andy Keogh couldn’t take advantage.

Rest in Peace Eamon

Bill O’Herlihy made it tick. Souness gave a fitting tribute to him when he died; he reckoned he was the best in the business.

Full clips are even wonderfuller. Jesus it was just fabulous sports TV. I loved to hate dunphy and was sick shit of him in the end but the whole ‘panel’ thing led by bill was really fantastic. That was in the build up to barcelona v Lyon in some bollox of a CL group game .

Eammo was using kite flying 10 15 years ago, I thought it was a relatively new phrase or it’s certainly become a lot more common place with the advent of NPHET, the junta and their cronies.

More of your bullshit.

Ah no it was often used around budget time especially. Throw out some planned tax rise or pay cut and see what the reaction was. The current nphet stuff is certainly the time when decisions by government have had such absolutely direct immediate impact on peoples day to day lives and were also made so randomly. Perfect weather for kite flying

I understand the concept mate :grinning: Just don’t recall the phrase being as ubiquitous as it is now

That’s why I tried to explain its ubiquitousity

‘i wonder if people will get angry if we only allow pet farms open between noon and 3pm. Fly up a kite there Pauline’

Show a bit of respect ffs

You didn’t show Eamon much respect.

I paid my respects on his passing.

He hasn’t had a new podcast episode since July 16th

He’s gone on his holliers.
