First things first. Let me make it clear that I’m not a motoring enthusiast in any shape or form. I want to get from A to B in the way that makes the most sense factoring in speed, cost etc… The electric car we bought works for us but our circumstances are fairly specific and they’ve worked heavily in our favour. There are certain drawbacks, I’ll get to those. Nothing that’s a dealbreaker for me. Might be for others.

This is the post I wrote explaining why we went electric originally. The long and short of it is the circumstances that made an electric car work heavily in our favour aren’t there any more.

• I fully work from home so I drive a lot less.
• I’m never in the office to charge for free.
• Public charging is now laughably expensive given the government’s EV adoption goals.
• I don’t have a home charger at the moment as the house I’m renting would need the electrics upgraded due to overly stringent rules around installing home chargers. This makes charging the EV a massive chore.
• I’ve a small child with associated luggage and paraphernalia

It doesn’t work for us. So we bought a 7 seater SUV.
